What’s worse: Purple and Gold or Chocolate Box? I think it’s a tossup. Paisley Park is in your heart

- both, absolute, worthless, video's ((( - Prince on a level of trying too hard Prince on a level of trying so hard to be in the charts - "The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves. I like Chocolate Box. Especially the whole disco jellyfish part. Different strokes... "New Power slide...."

I love the one for "Crimson and Clover." I suppose they were going for a futuristic look with "CB" but I never really got the concept or Prince's role in the video. Cool to see it again though. Thanks darkroman!

It's funny I remember that Madonna interview in the 90's forgot which magazine, but she said for an artist of Prince's caliber, his music videos are really uninspiring... It's true, he had a few classic videos which due to his aura simplicity was made it classic... But honestly, the majority of his videos are really bad... Especially if you compare it to his peers at the time like Michael, Madonna, etc...

I'm glad he spent most of his time on the music instead of the videos.

Crimson is one of my favorite videos of his. Sexy, with lovely visuals. "That's when stars collide. When there's space for what u want, and ur heart is open wide."

Agree with you... While many fams will jump to defense stating, glad he spent more time on the music than the video... No one denies Prince's passion and priority for the music... He just always had a not so great visual aspect when it came to videos and promotion... Funny thing is, I bet the biggest budget "video" he ever shot, was probably the Lotusflow3r promo for TARGET... Yes he has a few classic music videos, but in general his music videos were really below his standards, as with many of his album cover art especially after the early 90's... I mean lets not talk that word art font for Musicology.

I love both of these... I don't argue with people about my opinions. Scram. I said what I said.

Nov. 19, 1991: In a TV Guide Magazine interview, Madonna says she likes Prince’s music, but his videos are “silly and cheap and below his ability.”

I don't mind Chocolate Box, the song. The video is crap but then again, I think 99% of all music videos are crap. The Chocolate Box video looks like a cheap knock off of Sin City. A very cheap knock off. Robert Rodriguez, the man who directed Sin City, used to include little home movies on some of his DVDs. The special effects in those are better than the Chocolate Box video. What really makes me laugh is the "To Be Continued" at the end. Did Prince think this was good enough to warrant a follow-up? The Crimson And Clover video is another poor one that uses some "flashy" filters to hide how cheap it is. Looks like the opening to a film-school student's take on James Bond. I know that these videos were only ever made with the intention of being Lotusflower.com exclusives and were never likely to be seen by a wider audience, but even the 4 people who signed up for that site must have regretted their decision when they seen that these were the kind of "rewards" they'd be getting.

I like the song too but the video is kind of hard to follow. Lala Escarzega, the dancer in the video, said in a post on her Facebook that it was originally going to end with Prince taking her hand and walking with her into the next video but it never happened.

The Crimson and Clover video is so badass! I love the psychedelic flair and the footage of he and Misty Copeland each performing. I love the song...the guitar work is top notch. Live 4 Love ~ Love is God, God is love, Girls and boys love God above

I like both videos and songs. If you stop comparing Chocolate Box to what Prince has put out early in his career, then maybe you could appreciate it for what it is, just a catchy, fun song. + We put him into a Prince box where we only want a certain sound from him which I feel is quite unfortunate. Video isnt ground breaking. But it is fine, love Q-tip in it and the Mayte twin. + Crimson & Clover vid is ok too. Luv the psychedelic vibe and Prince looks amazing in it, so whats not to like? I've always thought that "Chocolate Box" is very fun and catchy. I like Q-tip's rap and I think the lyrics are cute and clever. I was hoping that he would release part two of the video to see where it went from there.

Q-Tip’s not in the video or did I miss him? Is he the guy in it? If so, it’s a bit odd that he doesn’t perform any of his rap in the video.

Not sure if there is another version of the vid with him rapping in it, I wouldn't doubt it. "A strong spirit transcends rules." - Prince

At least it's better than actually being silly and cheap and investing in expensive videos to cover up one's lack of real talent. Life Matters
