KISS - surely THE most popular/ best ever funk cross over hit & includes -Uptown Funk!

I'm calling it, I am GODDAMN calling it! This is the ultimate cross over funk hit song ever. It's pure hardcore funk - so purists love it, it's catchy with simple lyrics that everyone can remember & sing teir ass off to!, the chorus is kickass, the instrumenation / programming is complexity/genius disguised as simplicity [thanku David Z!] Likewise the Video is the clincher - the masses know & love it.

The only other contenteders are:

Stevie Wonders - Superstition- stunning BUT the masses can only sing bits of it!

Bruno - Uptown Funk - fake ass Time rip off - great though & a strong contender

JB - Sex Machine - great in every respect BUT not THAT singable!

Mungo Jerry - Play that Funky Music White Boy - actually very good!

Nah...when it comes to THE number 1 I cant thkn of any better! Do you have anything that would top it & I am talking global , , hit, mass appeal!

Something by Boney M surely lol

Off your list, I'd say Sex Machine tops it, was it not for I feel good that draws all attention from SM away - at least on radio.

That's what I'm sayin', not hard to check that shit, yo. Mungo Jerry recorded "In the Summertime" that was sampled by Shaggy years later, but the original is superior.

"Kiss" is not the most popular. "When Doves Cry" is the crossover he needed, as was "Little Red Corvette", which is as funky as it is a pop/rock hybrid hit.

For anyone who thinks "Uptown Funk" is solely a ripoff of The Time isn't listening. The stuff in that song goes way back before The Time was ever thought about, probably before Flyte Tyme or Champagne or whatever were bands, and before the Minneapolis sound was a thing. It covers multiple influences, hooks, R&B tropes, etc.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

Lol at you. Jump on any mistake to bestow your scholarly know it all bsery. Kiss is more of a funk song than When Doves Cry and Little Red Corvette is so your addition is invalid rather than to throw rocks.

The Mungo Jerry slip up was tragic but did you really need to educate us on the fact Shaggy sampled summertime (how esoteric) and that review it (the cover is superior, such a font of surfeit obviousness)

I think the statement about Uptown Funk being solely a ripoff, is you putting words in the original posters mouth. Just so you can go on an indolent rant, which starts off with a hiss and a roar but gives vague signposts but no information. While people can point to all of the places this song has cribber info from, surely the Time comment is valid and does not need finnessing from a pedant.
