MY Prince Anthology 1994 - 2010 So, I was pretty infuriated by the lack of thought put into the ANTHOLOGY compilation. There were some pretty bizarre inclusions - Strays of the World, P Control, We March, Emancipation, Chelsea Rogers, 3rd Eye, 4ever, Future Soul Song, Ur Gonna C Me!....and some pretty glaring omissions (The Holy River, TMBGITW etc).

That list is the “Real” Anthology. I would definitely purchase it, even though I already own all of the songs on cd. Your Anthology is near perfect!

Nice but way too long,no Musicology, boring songs such as I love You but I don t Trust you etc.( Éven thé title IS too long), the Truth,TGRES (seriously ?), When I lay etc.,, Xpedition, future Baby mama...
. Just like the "true" anthology, people go to sleep before the end. . If thé goal IS to make people intérested, 1 CD lenght IS largely enough. . I would rather Say : . 1.Loose 2.Papa 3. TMBGITW 4. I hâte U 5. Gold 6. Pussy Control 7. Thé Love WE Make 8. Holy River 9. FaceDown 10. Acknowledge Me 11. Lovesign 12. She loves Me 4 me 13. Last Décember 14. Musicology 15. Call My name 16. Black sweat 17. Love 18. Laydown . I think It s too long too...It deserves better réflection to select only great tracks that âged well, along with some hits from that Era . . 10 great tracks would me more effective than 40 songs I think. . Gold, Last Décember and Love WE Make are his masterpieces from that Era so It has to bé on It. . TMBGITW, Musicology, Call my name, Holy River and Blacksweat impacted thé charts so It has to bé on It too. . There are two songs left, that has to bé easy listening and enjoyable... Laydown and Pussy Control? . Then, thèse 10 tracks gives the casual listener thé impression Prince Really made something signifiicant After 1993, and gives thé curiosity to listen more. But it’s a pretty cheesy attempt at a club track IMO Green virgin teenager, or filthy rich yuppy. Pussy cat pussy cat, where for out thou puppy

* Generally, an anthology is something different than a greatest hits collection. As such, an anthology, which seeks to be more far-reaching or more encompassing, will always have more songs than a greatest hits project/collection, which is usually seeking to be narrow and not definitive or complete. Of course, maybe some folks will not know that distinction, but that's not the compiler's fault but more the fault of the person who doesn't know the definition of "anthology". As such, a greatest hits collection would/should only consists of the "best-selling" songs of the artist's entire career or of a specific period of the artist's career if, again, the compilation is focusing on a certain period whereas a collection attempting to provide a definitive or complete notion of that particular period will be more encompassing.

An anthology IS mostly made of hit singles, or alternateur, live etc. Versions of It...That s the rule. . Prince 1994/2010 carreer IS so forgotten and hard top justify that It s a commercial and artistic suicide to put a 30/40 tracks compilation. . Proof of that IS that thé actual compilation IS a flop on streaming services. [Edited 11/24/18 21:18pm] [Edited 11/24/18 21:19pm]

But it’s a pretty cheesy attempt at a club track IMO Yes totally subjective. Personally I'd include I Hate U as it's one of my favourite P tracks. I also would not include P.Control - is that 'easy listening!' If you want 2 tracks from Come; Papa and Loose would be surprising choices for a compilation. I'd probably go for Space and Letitgo.

I'd include these in any anthology of any size.

Again, reasonable minds can disagree, but "TLWM" is the only one I'd consider a masterpiece of these 3, and while maybe the most moving of the songs on Emancipation, I'd still take the title track over it for the bassline alone. Good night, sweet Prince | 7 June 1958 - 21 April 2016

Why americans are fan of slow répétitive rnb pièces of crap such as Insatiable, Future soul song, or thé whole D Angelo carreer, etc. IS beyond me.

I still like this comp, which covers almost the same era:

An official compilation that isn't just a playlist is long overdue but it definitely needs to stretch from 1994 onwards, from right after The Hits 1 and 2. [Edited 11/28/18 7:09am]

I'd prefer two new compilations with the dividing point being pre- and post-WB. Once he left Warners, he became more free to follow his muse without any interfering from the record company. This was both good and bad (Emancipation has a brilliant album hidden within once one does some judicious pruning), but nevertheless the change is evident.
