Cool quote made me think of Prince

I knew this about Prince, but like the way this man said it. It reminds me of P talking about transcendence. Some people think he was lonely when playing music alone in the middle of the night and “going to that place”. I don’t think so.

“All true artists, whether they know it or not, create from a place of no-mind, of inner stillness.” - Eckhart Tolle

Can any artists or even non-artists please elaborate on what this “place” is like, and what it takes to get there?

in my humble words it's like a place beyond time and space, a void I guess. Prince once described it in the Rolling Stone interview when he said his cook would come in when he was working and he said it was like she was in another time and how people think that's not having a heart. I knew what he was talking about. But really, the buzz that a truly great song has can take you to the same place, i only say it's "beyond time or space" because that's what it feels like, like the whole universe is opening up.

Very nice! That reminds me as well of him. I recall him saying in an interview about the P&M shows that it was like an out of body experience. Like he was watching himself from the outside.

I agree. It is a spiritual experience. But the creativity part of it I believe comes from being totally clean/clear in the mind of any ego (anger, fear, etc.)

Yes I believe Prince was big into practicing this kind of stuff.

It's nirvana. I think this goes beyond being an "artist". I believe, and have long advocated, that "talent" isn't just playing an instrument, or painting, writing, drawing, whatever. Talents are wide and varied, and I think everyone is really good at something. Like Nikka said, "everyone has their something". And while that song meant one thing, I truly believe everyone has a talent. Frankly, even though I can balance a checkbook, I think accountants or those good with numbers have a huge talent. I couldn't do that, but they can with their eyes closed. That's talent.

That said, when you're in that space where you are in your talent and it's flowing through you, it's pretty amazing. I'm a writer. I write books. When I am in that mode to write and I'm spilling words on a screen, I can look up and two or three hours have passed, maybe four. That "place" is being in the middle of what you're supposed to do in life. To work in a place of no-mind means you have no sense of self, or your surroundings. You're just being who you are meant to be doing what you are meant to do. The joy and bliss that everyone searches for just happens. There's a reason why people say "follow your bliss".

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

ya, the pianist rubinstein's son said something once about how big an ego his dad had but how it all went away when he played. It's akin to the line in immortal beloved where the lady forgave beethoven because of the beauty of his music over the cruelty of his behavior. For me, it's like entering an alternate reality, i don't like being around people because they try to pull you back into the world and they also misinterpret where you're heads at, hence prince's statement of not having a heart, I can imagine he spent most of his life like that. I can't afford to right now, wish I could.
