i know all that, i've been following like many here have, it doesn't mean he didn't know it as winding down. someone on here mentioned some guy who had it made for all appearances, had a future, had plans but out of the blue killed himself, we don't know everything about people's inner lives. Just look at how much we didn't know about Prince until after he died. we didn't know him, only fragments and pieces.

i won't defend it but as pointed out, most men will do that given the oppurtunity. Unfortunately, nature dictates that and we have rules against it for good reasons. Personally, I just don't approve or understand men who have egos so big that it can never be sated, which is really what the young women thing is, it's a power trip and an illusion of immortality. Watching someone like Quincy Jones brag about young women just makes him look vile and you know he can't function that well anymore, like i said, ego trip and with the amount of greedy needy people out there, someone will always be willing. I said people because i don't want "women" misconstrued, greed and oppurtunism goes beyond gender.

the question didn't specify "career only" some people don't want to look at the ugly but it's there, i understand it. Lots of people have said "can't we remember the best about him" with many heroes, I can understand it, our heroes conquered a lot and have admirable qualities no matter how they end, but personally, i like seeing the whole person.

Not letting his albums fulfill the potential. It's great he was regularly putting out albums all the time, but really good material didn't get the attention it deserved
This one is related to above....his choices of singles. I think SOTT had potential great singles like Strange Relationship, Adore, and Housequake for example
Not putting enough into Paisley Park Records
Not bringing the right people and trusting snakes
Thinking he could do it all (even though he could do a lot). Projects like Under The Cherry Moon and Graffiti Bridge are prime examples.
Not seeing the potential and benefits of platforms like Youtube and keeping things out of print.

I hear ya, but generally when 'miscalculation' is used it isn't talking about 'not getting enough sleep' or taking too many pills. I think it's just easy for us to go to his health right now, instead of looking at the career, the music the tours, videos.

1. remaking Extralovable and In A Large Room With No Light and releasing it
2. Not getting the Roadhouse Garden out with Prince & the Revolution
3. Not letting the Time/O7 open for him on the Welcome 2 Australia tour
4. Not doing some songs with FDeluxe
5. Not doing a solo piano/accoustic show sooner
6. Only releasing 2 B sides for Parade SOTT and Lovesexy

how about his biggest triumphs? Releasing Dirty Mind which sold like crap and screwed up any momentum that he'd have from the second album but won over critics and liberated him topically for later albums, like a master chess player who would train one piece for the other, it worked brilliantly. Making a movie, a feature movie that everyone, including himself doubted at times, turning it into the biggest triumph of all. Then, again, like the chess player he was, scaling back all the expectations and liberating himself of them with the about face ATWIAD. Going back to near obscurity minus a couple hits and doing arguably his best work during the next two albums, creating maybe his best film in SOTT. Diving into the 90's and hip hop with Diamonds and Pearls, releasing the most beautiful girl in the world when everyone thought he was done. Releasing Musicology along with the concert ticket in a never to be repeated selling venture that once again didn't break rules but certainly made the biz create new ones. Humans, like home run hitters are doing great if they only hit a third of the balls, Prince did about as good or better than a home run king.

Over-obssessing about his image. It did not feed the real man. Image and legacy more important than his life.

Closing the door on YouTube. So many people would have been exposed to his art. As far as his drug use goes which led to his death as some people are referring too in this thread; I feel he didn't know it was fentanyl. He probably thought is was Norco or something like that. We can't blame him for being human. I miss you, Prince... klick

To me, P's biggest miscalculation was when he decided to take ecstasy with Ingrid Chavez on December 1, 1987. . Instead, he put out the safe and unfunky Lovesexy and while "Alphabet St." and "When 2 R in Love" were nice, the album signified Prince's decline as an unpredictable musician. . There were a few shining moments in Diamonds and Pearls, but everything embarassing happened after December 1, 1987. Where do I begin? . 1. He allowed the Game Boyz to happen which gave Kirky J an outlet to rap. 2. Everything that had to do with Graffiti Bridge (although "Theives in the Temple" was a jam). 3. He let Larry Graham convert him to JW which took him to the point of no return. 4. He blew his chance at building the Paisley Park label into a label that could've rivaled Motown. 5. He arried superfan Manuela Testolini. 6. He lost Alan Leeds and never bothered finding a suitable replacement. 7. He sued Uptown. . These are just a few major errors after he thought God spoke to him the night he took that hit of X.

Those traumatic 90s: Graffiti Bridge, the name change symbol stuff, the deepening obsession with religion, Larry, blaming WB for his declining currency as a pop star, chasing trends with some of the worst music of his career.
Beyond that, the obvious stuff. Surrounding himself with employees and yes-men rather than real friends who could look out for him. Living in a bloody recording studio. Not taking enough time out between projects to recharge batteries maybe? Creating Paisley Park was a total folly too.
What else... oh, he really mishandled the Time and the Jimmy / Terry thing, what a shame. And not leaving a will, that was a total fuckup. What else... maybe not taking long enough to iterate on creative projects, rushing them out too quickly.
The biggest mistake though was not cancelling the rest of the P&M tour after the first health scare though, binning the dodgy meds and getting immedate help.

Even Prince talked about regretting it. . But I found that the period where he did not use his name, when you do searches on Prince for those years, you don't always get information, because of the symbol, or you have to type 'The Artist formally known as Prince'
