Did Prince & Ingrid Chavez get her sound from Superman?

Have a look at this clip of Superman from time 2:10 - 4:00. https://youtu.be/xqI3a4vBpxU

It’s basically the template for the Ingrid Chavez sound of her first Paisley Park album she did with Prince and Levi.

Whatcha think?

Yes!

PS... I just got an 3 disc McCartney compilation, and am starting to suspect that Prince went through a MCartney phase of taking ideas and warping them specifically in thec early 90s.... signs like him quoting popular MCartney lyics like "Silly Love Songs" on "Lovesign" or putting on, then removing, "Guess Who's Knockin" from "Goldnigga" are obvious references... but I feel like there's some weirder more abstract music paths that could be traced... musical ideas...

A new one called "Pure McCartney" and it's actually 4 discs. All studio versions. He goes so hillbilly just as much as Prince goes old man/pimp

Sounds nothing like it.

That Superman clip is just spoken word poetry over an orchestral backing

Ingrid's stuff is spoken word poetry over synthesised tracks and beats.

It's simply the spoken word genre. Poets have been reading and performing their poetry to music for a very long time now.

I took this to be a bit of a joke. The Superman scene is notorious and a monument feature in my formative pop culture landscape.

Margot Kidder was originally going to sing the lyrics, but the director Richard Donner thought it was too corny so they did the spoken word. Here is the actually recording of the song by another singer.

Well, if anything, anyone who loves to listen to John Williams has good taste in movie music.

Prince does sample Star Trek on Ingrid's album. And I don't think he credited it. Tut tut.

On Elephant box. Near the start, as it moves from the keyboard intro and the drums come in, you can clearly hear the sound of the Starship Enterprise doors opening from the original TV series.

I couldn't swear it's that exact sound but it might, I'll take your word for it.

I'm a trekkie, but not so much into TOS and TAS (though I've watched them all), I'm a second gen trekkie.
