That snippet is a complete joy - what song is he performing there? I would have loved for him to explore that direction more, especially in the studio. I've always loved his more Santana-esque live stuff. Who knows, one can dream about what's in the vault.

I believe it’s the 2005 NAACP awards. Anyway I don’t know what happened to the link which had the video snippet in my first post and I can’t edit it. confused

I believe he was performing Santana there. I believe he played this song at Coachella too. So good.

Then it IS the Vanguard Jam.

Either/or I just wanted to make sure it was an identified TV appearance and not something I'd missed for the Discog site, since it clearly comes from a TV broadcast.

ya, that was amazing, it was like he was doing that his whole life, it's not easy switching styles like that as a player. It's easy to hire other musicians to play it but to do it yourself is something else.

huh? what latin endings? we're talking about that awesome, one of his best live, solos at that particular show, it was great, it was fresh and for all the people who complained that his playing had goteen stagnant this was an in your face to them, he never played like that, not that i'm aware of anyway.

I dont think this song necessarily qualitfies under the description of "Latin jazz" but I always loved the Latin/Santana feel to "Save The People" by Sheila E. Prince's guitars are a mix of MPLS rhythm and Latin lead and then add Sheila's Latin drumming and it feels...Latin smile Maybe Latin rock as opposed to Latin jazz but awesome regardless.

LOL and I'm a HUGE Jazz fan, but when the genre sound overtakes his music, I don't care for it.

There are probably at least ten songs, both studio & live tracks where he'd obviously run out of ideas so he chucked on a latin beat and does a guitar solo..

it's such a lazy crutch & I hated every time he did it..
