The REACT channel did a video asking teens if they know 90s music. I think the 6:23 mark is where you'll find something most interesting.

The surprising react isn't if they know it or not, but that those who didn't know it immediately noted how cool of a song it was. That speaks to his music being truly eternal.

Some kids do, it just depends on who they hang around. My grandson was at my house a few weeks ago, and I was playing Prince music while cleaning house. (as usual) He is only 13, but from the loft bedroom he yells, "Hey, could you play that last song again!?" It was America. He says, that would be a great song for us to do in Jr. High choir.

So, it is our responsibility to educate the next generation, so they can be exposed to all the right stuff. I was so blown away by that Blackish episode, I can't even tell you.

But whose fault is that? We only know what we know. No one knows to go look for Prince, or Michael Jackson or Bowie. No one knows that "hey, I should go listen to funk music - whatever that is". I suppose we're all a product of our environment. If the parents aren't into something, the kid may not either during their formative years. Not everyone is an armchair musicologist. Certainly, their lives would be better if they knew Prince music - but all in good time.

I wouldn't say fault necessarily but the curiosity is begun by the parents. And even then sometimes a child might have one parent who is in to the pablum top 40 of the day and the other parent a deep track, razor's edge, all genuine musical style realist that likes to compare and contrast artists and musical elements.----------------------------------------------With information at our fingertips these days, if someone wanted to become an armchair musicologist it would not take the effort that WE had to expend!!!!
