Hilarious Prince ripoff in Hamburger Hamburger was a pretty hammy 1986 movie which is a spoof comedy about a guy who keeps having sex with women and dropping out of school, goes to a Hamburger franchise university based on the Mc Donalds College. Anyway that is not the reason for this thread. . The movie is like Police Academy and has a series of stereotypical characters - ditzy old man with hot wife, Over sexed Latin stud, Over sexed Latin female, Fat geek on a diet, real geeky guy and a nun (Oh gee how original), but the funniest is the token Black guy played by an unknown called Chip McAllister.
. He is very effeminate and is a singer/pimp called Magnetto or Magnetta Jones who is at Hamburger U solely as a token black and on some parole thing. The character wears heavy makeup, has a Jheri Curl and quite a lot camp mid 80s clothing, pink shirts, denim jackets and a "Slick Rick Bad boy concert briefs" what ever that is. He is quite hood like until the drill seargeant calls him a faggot and then he becomes obedient and submissive. The guy looks a lot like a Prince/Jesse Johnson knockoff. You see this at 15.20 in the movie. It is one of the few funny scenes in this mid 90s flop. . Anyway despite being handcuffed the whole time he excels in the course, although he tries to break out twice in the movie, once in a laundry van, where discovered he claims he has a show and can hook the guys up with some "bitches" and the second time when the lead character and hot chick steal a helicopter and Magnetto stows away and says "Magnetto Jones, soul to the bone" and he has a show and needs to get out. . Finally at the end Magnetto is a the class valedictorian and freed and says "To help me celebrate this occasion, I would like to invite up on stage my singing sisters the Extremes" and then he takes his pink pimp coat off and starts singing a horrible song with lines like "I think I'm ready, Americayoure getting burga hungry, a busta burga, Busta burger is ready for you, the busta burga thats full of bull and thick rich shakes and golden french fries. . The character is straight Prince knock off and clearly reminds me of Jak, Georgio, Exotic Storm's Dezzraye and all these other knock offs from the mid 80s.
Watch it and tell me what you think. About 5 minutes from the end you can see Magnetto singing.

What the fuck is a Gheri Curl? It's a Jheri Curl. . Also Prince had a curl between 1984 and early 1985, and his 1982/83 look was a permed Jheri Curl look. I was more referring to Jesse Johnson who wore his Afro well into the 1980s and then went straight Jheri curl around 1984/95. I got plenty good loving for ya baby

Prince had Jheri curls through the 1999 and Purple Rain eras, although they were not as wet and greasy as most. . These photos come from pages that were a homage to Jheri Curls
Looks pretty Jheri to me, now Evidence 2 - Jesse Johnson
Way too much pink and serious over jherification
Now look at Magnetto/Magnetta/Magenta Jones
Sorry the picture resolution was dreadful
Definitely Prince's wardrobe mixed with Rick James/Stevie Wonder and Slick rick clothes. A bit like Carlton Savage, Dezzraye Moore and Jak too.

Prince had permed hair that were either set in ringlets or curled with a curling iron, no jheri curls.

The top photo begs to differ, his hair looks wet and teh centre bang can only be caused by a curling iron coming from a mane of Jheri's. That was one oily ass brother. . Thank God he was not like Jahmaine Jackson, that was a oily mfer. I am sure the Exxon Valdez was carrying his supply of Jheri Curl juice. I got plenty good loving for ya baby

Looks better than most of the impersonaters now. But so glad jericurl is gone--that stuff used to stain pillow cases and make 'em greasy!

You missed the part between the 2nd photo of Prince and Jesse and it says "Evidence 2 - Jesse Johnson". Of course I know that, I have the album. . That Jheri is an improvement on that dated ass afro he wore well into the 1980s. I got plenty good loving for ya baby

. . I agree, I don't think Prince ever had a jheri curl. That character that was supposed to be Prince/Jesse Johnson-ish? Didn't remind me of Prince at all. . That said, what really got my attention was that the guy seeming like a drill seargent in the scene that we were referred to... that was NFL Hall of Fame linebacker, Dick Butkus. Wow. .
