I stream his albums most of the time. It´s just very convenient (I listen through a Sonos-Home System) and most of the stuff is streamable anyway now (fortunately).

Neither. I ripped all my CD's long ago. I maintain a huge digital collection. It's the perfect solution for me: it all fits in a small hard drive but it's my collection and I don't need the internet to access it.

Why would I pay to listen to something I already own?

I don't get streaming at all. I don't like being at the mercy of the streaming company. Once they take something down I can't hear it anymore. I need to own the music I listen to, be it vinyl, CD or digital. When all the streaming people are complaing about what they took down, I go into my Prince folder on my harddrive and listen to whatever I want.

I buy the CD or the high quality file from Bandcamp and then I use the streaming service to listen. To me this maximizes the support of the artist, most artists are made or broken these days by how many streams they have so the streams are important!

As others have already noted, streaming or physical media are not the only ways to listen to music.

Yes, as well as the physical stuff. I don't live in the stone age and streaming is how a lot of new music is intended to be listened to, I do like new music as well as P. If the internet breaks down i'm covered.

I do whatever's convenient for me at the time. I have streaming services and hardcopies.

It depends where I am or what I have in front of me. I'll use Spotify in a pinch. It's also nice if I wanna flip artists or whatever. If I really want to skip commercials, I'll use iTunes.

Here's the thing for me: I do not have an unlimited data plan, so I rarely stream anything. If I'm not on WiFi, streaming is just a non-starter.

I have a ton of Prince on my iPhone, so if I want to listen to him in the car (for example), I will just listen to something I own. My car actually has a very simple Pandora interface. But again - not streaming in the car.

Especially if (as I do), you already own everything. I can have my own 24/7 Prince station any time I want.

both. but i already had a spotify premium account when there was no prince on there.

so now that almost all of his albums are on it, it's just easy.

I don't do much off Wifi either. I pay only for what I use, and if I don't use it, I have a smaller bill.

I do keep a few things on my phone (I have 64GB) but I don't have any device on which I could sync all 19K+ songs.

Lately I've been picking one or two CDs for the car to really savor. When you have everything at your fingertips, sometimes you lose the magic. Hearing "Joy In Repetition" followed by "Jughead" is just... oh lawd.

I stream when I'm either at school or lazy tbh, but I'll listen to the vinyls and CDs otherwise. The speaker quality is a lot better on physical audio devices than on my laptop, and I'm a real sucker for physical copies of albums. I only get to listen to the vinyls at certain times because the record player is in the living room, and my family makes so much noise lol, but the CDs i'll usually listen to in my room where I can have them at a loud-ish volume yet not loud enough to bother the other people in the house too much.

There are some songs I have to stream (because let's face it I'm broke and the stores here don't carry much that isn't local) but if I can listen to a song through a physical copy of a CD or especially vinyl, i prefer to listen that way.

I use streaming for more than Prince music though. I've discovered artist I like that I've never even heard of using streaming. There's no way I own that many hardcopies of the stuff I listen to on streaming. Especially things out of print. It has it's uses. And I still prefer having my favorites in my own hands too.

i don't know if they are still on there since things seem to have changed a lot recently,
but Tidal used to sell the npgmc albums in lossless quality back when prince was still
working with them. those lossless files that prince's people gave to Tidal were so much
better in quality compared to the compressed ones they used to upload to the npgmc.
it makes a huge difference in listening pleasure. the ones on spotify sound good but if
you want the best quality you should buy the Tidal ones.
