Incorrect. To say Prince's is the most important part diminishes everyone else there and their role. You think Prince was the only one dodging raw chicken and beer bottles? Think again. Hell, even Wendy was there backstage. She told the story on her and Lisa's Luxuriaradio show back in 2009. Lisa recorded interviews with Wendy, Bobby, and Matt (Mark wasn't available I think) and they all told their sides of it. She did a great job editing it all together, adding some music or sound effects. It was like listening to an audiobook. And that is why I want The Revolution to write their own book. They all have their view of a story, but to have them spliced together in sections like that would be fantastic; a quick cross-reference the way Motley Crue did or the MTV VJ book.
Just because Prince isn't part of it doesn't make the story less compelling. This story has been told and retold without ever hearing Prince say shit about it for the most part. How would a book now about The Revolutions time together be any different? If Prince were alive, he'd not participate because we know how he was, so now is just as good of a time as anything.
But to get The Revolution to talk about everything from 1979 on up through 1987 or so like that would be exciting as fuck. All the Susannah stuff, the favoring of the girls, Matt staying on after Parade, Dez's exit and Wendy coming into the band. All these little snips we hear in interviews on DVDs or radio shows, plus more would be in a book - stuff we've never heard. Prince would never tell the whole truth anyway. He'd tell his truth, which we know wasn't always 100% accurate. The Revolution would be respectful but blatantly honest at the same time.
Hey, sometimes a newbie band has to dodge stuff like this :
LOL @ that scene

That's your view, and you're welcome to it. But you're in a minority. You'll never get Prince's side to it anyway.
paulludvig has #hate issues with the Revolution W & S more particularly here is another from the Rolling Stones concert Is this picture also in Allen's book? I ordered it from Amazon. Really looking forward to it. All the picture from this era are pretty bad-ass. And it's cool seeing Prince walking among the regular people without security or much fanfare. |

These are the cards on the table. It's irrelevant to swim in the seas of "yeah but" or "what if". The Revolution is touring right now, and people are still buying tickets and the shows are still selling out left and right. Some whack version of the NPG is doing the same, but that's another show.
The Revolution has always been limited in what they could say, Wendy & Lisa being the exception by being a bit more forthcoming sometimes (to the point that Prince got his panties in a twist about it during the 'fancy lesbian' days, which was utter bullshit on his part). the NDAs are over, and yeah, I want to hear all the stories they have together.
Dez, Brownmark, Allen, Mayte, ...endless people have put out a book or spoken about Prince before and after he died. It's not different. Prince had 57 years to talk about his life beyond music. He chose, for the most part, not to talk at all. So, that door is closed. We can't deal that hand anymore. But for his most popular band to date to sit and write a book together and tell a story about their beacon and their leader - that is as gold as it could get.

They are his (or anyone's) issues. Certainly not mine. The quasi-angst sounds like Jill Jones bitching about something (even when she slightly shaded Vanity in the liner notes to PAAM) regarding the Revolution. My good friend is a Prince fan like us all, and he isn't a fan of Wendy coming into the band. He was a fan from day one so his version of greatness includes Gayle or Dez.
Long story short, the Revolution doesn't care. Fans don't either.
That pic is great. It can only be on their way to the stage, since Prince jetted before the band even existed. haha What a fucking day, though. There's just nowhere to hide when bottles and chicken wings are flying at your head.

why would it seem odd
if you wanted to right about about your family after your mother died, so you your dad siblings, her siblings/nephews neices etc wanted to right a family book, would it be odd that mom was not in it? no
It would not be odd for the Time to write a book about their time with Prince 1980-1984 |

Yes. Not a fan of bands that break up but half the band still tours/records as that band. Like what Fleetwood Mac is doing now. Fleetwood Mac without Lindsey Buckingham is not Fleetwood Mac. Just like GNR with out Axl Rose is not GNR. For me it’s different with Prince because he basically was the band whether it was The Revolution, NPG or 3EG. I’ll feel the same way if The Revolution or NPG ever decides to record new music as those bands. I know others disagree. Paisley Park is in your heart

Agree Rogifan, but I still love to go see the Revolution and NPG. They're the closest it's going to get now to hear the music live, since it was those bands who did play for him. So at least it is authentic. TRUE BLUE |

Well you have to remember that this (I'm no stones fan so please correct me, but I'm pretty sure) is the era where they were filming for "Let's Speak The Night Together", but if they were to shoot it for that, you'd see big stationary 32mm cams right up against the stage in their own little area. Wouldn't be surprised if there was a VHS camera or even just a single film camera somewhere in the photo we just can't see or in the audience out of frame. My guess is if it wasn't filmed, they have the soundboard, which I'm sure Prince wanted no part of after the fact ... But who knows.
Edit: I see your use of "videotaped" which would refer more to the possibility of VHS rather than film. [Edited 10/15/18 20:29pm]usually known as "Leaped7689" |

You are wrong here though. From 1983-1986 the band was "Prince And The Revolution". They were an official unit. Yes, he was always the leader, but they were an entity. It was never just "Priince" during that time period. |

Here is the link to Lisa Coleman's segment that she did on her radio show. 25 minutes of really good information. She's got Matt, Mark, Dez, and Wendy who was back stage during the shows. Sorry about no hyperlink, but you can copy and paste the URL....
