I'm not 100% sure fcuz, but these are the lyrics the way
I hear them. It's a cool song and the lyrics are nice.

I think that's all accurate except one minor difference:

"ain't nothing worse than a old worn-out love song"

Incidentally, it's very rare that Prince writes a song without a chorus (what others are there?) and even rarer that he writes a song without the title in the lyrics (again, what others are there?)...

I believe Prince is saying that he and his current love are like two good-luck charms matched together. But this time a more sober Prince in the wake of his mother's death and the death of his marriage with Mayte is pondering mortality; the relationship’s, his wife’s and his own. Prince knows this time that there are no guarantees for this love and so he’s frantically trying to keep it all from breaking apart.

This is an extremely personal song. It hit me hard.
