labels?..we dont need no stinking labels

We do need labels! No elite will leak anything that’s really good anytime soon unfortunately.

Maybe that is exaclty BECAUSE of the labels. A lot of traders I know hoard there stuff because of bootleg labels and these guys used to give out tracks on cassette back in the 80's before most of the stuff got out in the 90's through bootleg cd'S like the Jewel Box etc. and then they stopped doing that.
Eye records disappearing might be a good thing and honestly I hope Sabotage is next just to see if the old school traders or elite traders will finally release that stuff like before.

yeah but now there is no label and i haven’t seen an elite leak anything.

Not all so-called elite traders are selfish pricks, you know. Many have this dilemma where they would like to share what they have but 1/ they got it against giving their word not to share or leak it, and they won't betray friends and people who entrusted them and 2/ they need what they have for further trading and if they leak stuff and get caught, they'll be considered unreliable and no one will ever trade with them or give them stuff anymore. So what are they going to do?

.... and yet I remember some FREE bootleg labels that gave us some of the most comprehensive outtakes and other releases. Much more than EYE ever did. EYE mostly picks up already circulating stuff and put it out for sale.

Most prominently in my memory would be PureFunk's three volume set of "30 Years of Unreleased Funk" which consisted of mostly completely new material in pristine quality. For FREE!

U'r right too.....but all over the past ten years....a lot of brand new stuff has been given available among already circulating stuff by Boot labels , we wanna see what's gonna coming next but the Elite knows exactly what the stuff is in the hands of EyeRecord (yet) for example and have a good idea of what would would have put on Blast V7...so EyeRecord is dead or so.....we are waiting for "a minima" this stuff owned (among others) by EyeR ...let them free for the pleasure of all...but for real i don't see the point this probability coming ?....just my 2 cents ...i don't have the knowledge of what is happening/talking inside the Elite circles ?

Profit certainly is a strong motivation. Let us not forget however that some of those same bootlegers used to trash the quality of the songs on purpose in the late 80's-early 90's, so they could sell you the same tracks again with better quality a few years later. And as said above, other chose to leak things for free online after the dawn of the internet.

I certainly won't blame drugs dealers for making money when they sell me illegal substances, but I'm not enough of a fool to believe they do it because they're nice and they want to help me have fun with drugs. Besides, what I don't want them is to cut my hashish with plastic or my xtc with detergent. The hell with them if they do this! Similarly, I'm cool with bootleggers if they do a proper job, but when Eye Record "cuts" their new outtakes dope with old outtakes in similar quality or fanmade mixes, they're attempting to scam me and they can go to hell.

Did u pay 4 the stuff EyesR released?....i don't think so...i suppose with big probability u picked up the best stuff from EyeRecord for free when the CDs/downloads were available ....u are upset about some compilation choices made by EyeRecord ?...few things is better than nothing....maybe in the end Nothing or so few will be available ....what is better ???....IMO i made my choice when the choice was here but don't worry...WINTER IS COMING i smell (hope 2 B wrong but??)

I certainly paid for a lots of boots back in the days, not all of them made with the honestest intentions and delivering the best possible product. I am not the subject of this conversation, however, Eye is. The fact that their products can and will be pirated doesn't justify them scamming those fans who are too old or too naive to know what they're doing. The live/rehearsal stuff is OK I guess, but those BFTP compilations are really a problem. If they did things ethically, no one could say anything against them. I certainly would not.

I understand what u mean...but my position is...few new things is better than nothing and soon we will have not nothing to discuss because The Elite share nothing ....EyeR is far away to be the best Boot label (Sabotage used to be maybe better in the old days) but the xclusive things (outtakes) shared this past 2 years is because of EyeR....u can turn around the facts & the facts are until now !

Really though, it's not going anywhere. Eye records isn't the oldest, nor the only bootlegger out there. And we've certainly not heard everything out there floating in someone's box of tapes. I think there is a healthy side to bootlegging, in a roundabout way. It almost forces the artist's hand to release the full or complete versions of songs. It creates a demand from the consumer and alerts the artist to what is wanted. Now while the artist certainly has their say in what to release or not, a good artist would listen to their fanbase and create a middle ground for an outtake package or whatever. Prince paid attention to that at least once with Crystal Ball (although, for me, I'd not heard half those songs before they were on that disk set). All that said, the estate listens, I believe. They know what's out there, new or old. It doesn't mean they're going to counter with an official release of everything, but they are certain using what's out there as a gauge for future releases. But yes, bootlegging is never going to end with Prince's music.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

Well, to be accurate "the elite" does share some things because Eye Records did get those tapes from elite traders (who either sold them or entrusted the wrong person). There will always be someone to try and make money off those tapes: if it's not Eye it will be Ear, Nose or Mouth. And there will always be someone to decide to leak some stuff away as well. There are certain things that we won't ever get because too few people have them, but bootlegging didn't begin with Eye and won't end with them.
