How do you know no one has "come to the rescue"?

We had the previously unreleased Long Beach '85 soundcheck about two weeks ago so things are still being shared without the labels. We don't need the labels.

There was an argument that the existence of the labels were stopping free releases because FBG etc got the hump when they released the stolen music they had and Eye etc then stole it more and sold it for cash money.

But this is the Prince music world, so no surprises really. It's like when Prince complained that WB were stopping him doing more than one release per year, then got free and did one release per year. People like to complain about what bothers them but the reality is that is not ultimately the reason for them doing or not doing something.

RIP sad

ATWIAD #1 in studio quality was leaked recently, which was a grail of mine. Would I like to see this happen more often? Certainly - I gotta lotta mo' grails to go...

To be fair, the 'releases' were often multi disc though & he released multiple albums some years. From Emancipation til his death (god, I still hate writing that) he released, what 33 discs of material in 20 years? That's not including hits compilations or virtual bsides & Cybersingles.

Evened out, it'd probably work out at 2 albums worth a year since 1996

You spoiled brats... rolleyes

"Prince hasn't released a song for a whole week now, do you think he's never gonna release music again?"

Back in the 2000's, there could be years between leaks. Years.

I dunno, I've been collecting Prince bootlegs for over 30 years. First vinyl, then CD, then digital. EYE didn't start this and they sure won't finish it. They're not even the longest running bootleg label that caters to Prince releases only, that would be Sabotage, who I assume is still around. The markets not dead yet, and if it ever is, I have plenty to enjoy including many, many live shows that I still have never gotten around to listening to.

I agree. The released version takes itself a little too seriously. ATWIAD #1 is loose and fun in the vein of “all the hippies sing together”.

That bass, though! I am actually going to insert it into my ATWIAD album in iTunes. I also have an ATWIAD expanded playlist that I'm going to put it in as well. It's super nice. The segue right after the "sha la bo tee"'s is so good.

I think that I may have missed this. Is this the version that was circulating previously, but in better quality? If so, I LOVE that version… the chugging groove with the bass at the fore. I've been hoping for a better quality version for ages. eek

Is this the more Middle-Eastern-sounding version? The one that ends "sing it for your man, sing it for your girl"?

I think he sings that lyric in both the unreleased versions. This one (Around The World In A Day #1), has a very prominent bassline which the album version lacks, changing the the feel of the song quite considerably and making it into more of a "jam", whereas the other one sounds more like an extended version of the album track.

They (SAB) had a release planned for sometime this year. A remaster or reissue of a 2009 show I think... Nothing new I don't think.

All the most recent leaks except for ATWIAD (still from the same person however, but he leaked it himself through a 3rd party) were from one source and they had been in the hands of 4 or so people since July... There's still the unedited 1984 Palace rehearsal that has been decided to stay quiet (No real difference besides the tracklisting/order). Also, according to the original files for that rehearsal, Eye Records did change the track order...

We do need labels! No elite will leak anything that’s really good anytime soon unfortunately.

Maybe that is exaclty BECAUSE of the labels. A lot of traders I know hoard there stuff because of bootleg labels and these guys used to give out tracks on cassette back in the 80's before most of the stuff got out in the 90's through bootleg cd'S like the Jewel Box etc. and then they stopped doing that.
Eye records disappearing might be a good thing and honestly I hope Sabotage is next just to see if the old school traders or elite traders will finally release that stuff like before.

"Badges? We don't need no stinkin' badges!" is a widely quoted paraphrase of a line of dialogue from the 1948 film The Treasure of the Sierra Madre. That line was in turn derived from dialogue in the 1927 novel, The Treasure of the Sierra Madre, which was the basis for the film.Wikipedia
