Interesting thread! I probably listen to Prince about the same as I always did. I had started to seek out new music artists in January 2016, weirdly, and the week he died I went to the first gig of these new artists. It was a bittersweet moment, however, it showed me that there are some brilliant musicians and writers out there that need support and encouragement. I will always listen to Prince though, that will never change 😎✌❤

^^^ I believe that if you are an intellecually curious individual who enjoys the wide world of music, there will always be new and old artists' works to stimulate your attention. I myself happened to be immersed listening to works of another 80s band when Prince passed. > Paying attention over time to the news of musicians' passing, I'd wonder exactly how I'd be affected by the death of a personally favored musician--it definitely shifts something inside of you! The shock of depression made me stop listening to Prince's music, but my regular listening habit picked right up again after a few weeks. The experience has motivated me to experiment with hearing different compilations of Prince's music beyond the album set, while the classic album-listen remains interesting to me. His storytelling projects wiil always be motivating to hear in-full-sequence--PR, Lovesexy, Symbol, TRC, Exodus with the NPG. I'll confess that for me so many other of his albmus seem to have a flow and energy that compel me to listen through, as the whole project evokes thoughts and emotions, and he is emoting from his own emotional space & personality of the time, which examining from that perspective for me has also been interesting (TGE, 3121, AOA etc). Like Prince himself said, albums matter! I guess I'll always eventually have a mood to listen to a Prince tune. I'm confident that when more unheard music comes out I'll be listening to Prince with higher frequency again.

Its not how it sounds. I dont hate listening etc but I find I skip pass when many of his songs come on shuffle etc. His music was so heavy in my life rotation that I get sick of hearing him 'sometimes.' I get int hese no Prince phases and gimme some Prince phases. The Anthology was refreshing as hell as it was full of non overplayed songs etc. But generally lately Im tired zzz. I've listened about the same as always with the exception of his last 3 releases, I listen to 3rdeyegirl but hnr 1&2 and aoa I walk wide circles around, even though I played them heavily before. Time keeps on slipping into the future...

Honestly, I was only a casual Prince fan (as I'd been for a number of years - knew the obvious hits and had the Hits/B-Sides compilation and copies of the Vanity 6/Apollonia 6 albums, but not much other than that) until this year. But I've listened to him heavily this year (helped by an old friend from the online MJ fan world giving me a load of his Prince stuff).
So although I listen to Prince a lot more after his death than before, his death wasn't the 'trigger' for it. It was a very different situation when Michael Jackson passed... that was like an instant trigger for me to go back through all of his old stuff, and (in some cases) buy albums I'd missed back in the day.

It would be a weird day for me to not listen to at least a couple of his songs. (Like very ill in bed with the flu and can't get up kind of weird.) I am one of those people that need music like other people would probably need a cup of coffee. Although, got to have one of those too! Good morning children...take a look out your window, the world is falling...
