And he missed many years on streaming services. He will soon have 2 songs with 100m. Madonna for example has zero.

It's not. Prince songs are 50 years old. Drakes are new. It should be like that. Hell, the way people listen and buy are different from back in the day so the 'mindset' is more radical. Those numbers for PR and Kiss are hella respectable.

That’s why I’m ok when an AMAZING commercial like the recent Natalie Portman one that looks more like a sexy video for the song. It brings life to a track to a new generation who might not otherwise been that aware of its coolness.

Hypocrisy at its finest. If it wasnt the so called 'hot' Portman etc but used in a commercial with Phyllis Diller hawking eye glasses you wouldnt be okay with it.

So commercialism is ok to you if it fits a certain agenda, is hip cool, and uses your ideals of beauty.

I genuinely don’t know, but to me it seems that she doesn’t have any of the good will from the public that other contemporary acts like Prince, MJ, Janet or Springsteen enjoy. This Drake fellow might be hitting a billion, nevertheless I have no idea who he is. I've heard his name but I have no clue what he does or what he looks like. I could google him, of course, but I won't bother. So for all his billions of streams, he still hasn't been able to reach me, which makes quite a loser of him if you ask me

I'm glad Kiss, which is not on Purple Rain, is his first song with 100 million Spotify streams. It's nothing against Purple Rain (the album), which is my favorite Prince album. I just don't want Prince to be pigeonholed as "the Purple Rain guy". While PR is the centerpeice and most renowned part of his legacy, his legacy is much more than the Purple Rain era.

As a side note, Kiss was the first Prince song that I really really liked!

Just a few years ago older albums were documented to be outselling modern ones and just last year I believe Lionel Richie and Bruce Springsteen had the biggest tours of the year. Let's see what happens if a new vault album actually outstreams the latest project by a Drake or Taylor Swift. I doubt it'll happen but I'll enjoy it if it does

Streaming is what radio was pre-internet. That’s how this generation gets it’s music. It has nothing to do with anything other than the media and zeitgeist.

That’s why Ed Sheeran has the most streams. ED SHEERAN for god sakes. Even though I like Ed, c’mon, that only says it’s about a certain generation and the moment not anything else.

Looking at the top 100 streaming songs of all time, most are only a couple of tears old. The oldest track on the top 100 is from 2011.

The track with the most streams on Spotify is “Shape Of You” from 2017 with 1,931 million streams.
