Sharon Nelson speaks on 20/20: the Night Before He Died

Maybe the family are starting to speak on this a little bit.

Here are some snippets:

In a new 20/20 segment, ABC News correspondent Bob Woodruff investigates the drug by shedding light on families who have lost people to fentanyl. He also travels to China in search of undercover labs that may be responsible for online sales and shipping the drug to the United States. In this clip from the segment — which airs Friday, September 28th at 10 p.m. — Prince’s half-sister, Sharon Nelson, talks about her view on fentanyl and the affect of the singer’s dying.

“He wouldn’t have taken a pill like that at all. When you’re in pain, you’re going to take a pill, hoping it relieves it,” she says. “You’re not thinking like that; you’re not thinking like a normal person who isn’t in pain. … After all that’s happened to Prince, I know, I can say for sure, his fans will never take that pill.”

In new 20/20 interview, Prince's half-sister says late musician, whose death was linked to counterfeit pills laced with fentanyl, "wouldn't have taken a pill like that" if he had known the pills were counterfeit. reports Friday.

He's the big kahuna that was taken down by this substance, so I understand it. It was and still is shocking to many. sad

They stated that fentanyl wasn't mainstream, in the public's consciousness basically, until the passing of Prince. I know I hadn't really heard anything about the fentanyl situation until Prince passed, and then started hearing it everywhere. Since his passing seemed to make the general public aware of fentanyl, that could be the reason why he gets brought up. I don't think any of them are wanting to insinuate that Prince was a drug addict, and the majority of people believe that he only took pills becuse of pain. That has made his death to this opoid crisis all the more profound, so that people still talk about it. It could have been avoided.

Unfortunately probabilities are some of us are already addicted to opiates.

Exactly.
If anything "his name entering the picture" only proves how popular Prince really was/is, how relevant he still was/is, how influential he was/is. I found/find some comfort in that.
I also try to find some comfort in knowing his death has made an impact. His death has made a difference. His death has spurred the powers that be into action- finally aknowledging and addressing the opiate epidemic.
Fans who continue to take issue with him being linked to this crisis are obviously projecting their own personal opinions or hang ups about drugs and drug users. From the first whisperings of Prince's death being drug-related the only thing I felt for him was deep compassion. And despair over the senselessness of it all. It's hard for me to imagine why some people here are vehemently opposed to accepting the reality of his passing.
Haters are going to hate. It's what gets some poor unfortunate souls out of bed in the AM. That's not my problem. What some anonymous trolls say about Prince, his life, or his manner of death on internet forums and/or message boards couldn't mean any less to me. Besides each and every one of us is likely to be touched personally by the tragedy of opioid addiction so maybe that will eventually silence them. Again, I don't really care about any of that but for those that do maybe it helps to remember none of us is immune.
It's a hurtful place, the world, in and of itself. We don't need to add to it. We all need one another. ~ PRN

It is worded weirdly but she probably just meant that since we have seen how it can kill a musician us P fans love, that it will bring awareness to it all.

I take issue with the fact that when opioid abuse is mentioned in the media, there is either a picture of Prince next to it, or it mentions Prince. I'm glad you find comfort in that, but I don't.

I will wait to watch 20/20 and see who else they mention, or what other celebrity family they interview.

Just like the article in the top news story on google several months ago, when Bethany Frankel's boyfriend OD'd. The story had nothing to do with Prince, didn't mention Prince, but had Prince's picture on it, and didn't even have the guy who died picture attached to the story.

And if you think everyone who comments about Prince's death is a troll or hater, you are wrong. But alas, YOU & Rogi never fail to comment on those threads.

Death is a part of life. You can't run from it. It's coming after all of us. Do you think that by not talking about, it won't come?

I don’t know anything much about Prince’s circumstances with the Fentanyl (I tend to shy away from the death threads) but one thing I do know for sure is that Fentanyl is so powerful that it is easy to mix up the dosage.
A little less than a decade ago I was run over by a car in a bad way and the EMT people in the ambulance had me sniff this liquid up my nose, my heart rate and breathing slowed to a crawl and I lost consciousness.
These people were trained and experienced in administering the drug for therapeutic purposes and me tapping out like that caught them by surprise!
I just wish Prince had stopped cold and gone in for inpatient treatment after the Atlanta incident

sad

We all do. Instead of seeing threads about his death, we might be learning about a new open concert at PP, or having him text back to fams on his Instagram account. As I continue to age, it would have been nice to have his music in the foreground of my life, helping me through it all. I will always continue to miss that. I know we didn't lose him as early as Jimi or some others, but still....

Not a good example of "poster boy" not with this right under the title

How an opioid 30 times stronger than heroin infected the industry. Prince’s sister and Tom Petty’s family weigh in

It would have to be something that would have not connection whatsoever to Prince yet Prince's name comes up anyway to be a "poster boy" moment.

Why don't you try reading the article? The FULL article. And don't tell me you did because you responded 4 minutes after my post.....

Funny thing is, I wasn't looking for it. I googled, Did Tom Petty have a will. And BAM there it is, on page 2.

It may be true.

But why were the pills with fentanyl separated? The 15 pills found in the jewelry box had the fentanyl in them. And then again, he knew the pills were counterfeit because he didn't get them from a prescription.

But we've been thru all of the above with thousands of posts. I do want to watch the program and see the full interview with Sharon though.

That's right. There was a reason for that even if people don't know it.

And I don't care in the slightest what kind of attention-seeking Sharon is looking for with this interview, I don't think she has ever done anything supportive of Prince. Lol, I care about her as much as she cares about me nod

I'm only going by your claim. The article is also referring to things his sister said too, not just some random article that is talking about the nationwide epidemic and just happened to throw Prince's name in it which is what you stated from the beginning. This article from the get go is specifically talking about an industry problem and truth be told Prince is one of the biggest stars who have died from this, of course he's going to be mentioned somekind of way.
