Never Been Anything Like This ?

In the history of American music, there has never been an international popular deceased artist with the quality of unreleased “new” music and film that Prince had in the Vault. Prince’s productive, creative, prodigious artistic energy was astounding.

Not the Beatles, Jimi, Miles, Elvis, Marvin, etc. Name one!

If you were the Estate, how would you strategize the release of this material over the next...we will say 10 years?

If I were the estate. The music that has been sitting inside of Prince's vault. Would be listen to first to make sure that the music in put in an order what is similar as into beats, etc. What is not simliar. That fans can see Prince is a whole new light. Prince did not have a specific genre of music. But the music need and should a format to follow and not put music out that would capture the fans attention. I think this is why Prince success in the '90's was booming like it should had back in the '80's.

honestly, i think it will come down to only the most serious of listeners, the paying audience probably won't sustain anything here. the world is different, music is no longer profitable so, it'll only be people who love the man and the art who'll keep things alive. Also, for whatever reason, artists with larger bodies of work tend to only be popular for the ubiquitous stuff, for elvis it's hound dog or jailhouse rock when some much of the hundreds of tunes of his are never heard, some of them really goddamned great. As big a fan as I am, I haven't gone throught the trouble to listen to all his music, partly because of the rep of the movie years but I plan to. life gets busy, the older i get the less time I have to listen. I don't think there will be any hits or any unanimous response to what we get in the future. I'm sure opinions will be all over the place as they have always been.

I would release everything in the vault through a streaming service dedicated to Prince only. I would call it Revolution Music which would go by the short name Revel (short names are good for the corresponding app). I would have 3 basic business models - 1) Free membership where you can stream his official albums up to and including HnRII. But if you want to create playlists, hear live shows, watch video and listen to the unreleased stuff then you need, 2) Paid membership of $10 per month. If you want to own any of the music and download it onto your device of choice legally then you can 3) purchase individual albums, collections, live shows, video etc. Prices will be discounted for paid members. Physical copies in CD or vinyl format will be available for purchase but because they will need to be printed to order, will carry a premium price. Occasionally a live show, unreleased album or collection of songs in a boxed set will get a physical release and will be distributed by a 3rd party like WB. This will be used as an avenue to not only sell more product but also to promote Revolution Music. One release a year should do it.

Outside of that I would be licensing out the music to movies and product advertising and I would sell merchandise through the Revel app store. I would also heavily promote PP as a destination to visit on the new streaming site as well as promoting the various backing bands/proteges that still want to perform live around the world. More importantly, I would open up the PP studios to other artists and bands and start taking money for studio time. PP as a museum is fine, but the studios need to be put back to work. That is what they were built for.

Lastly I would contribute some money to Ben and have the Org overhauled so it fits better into the 21st century way of doing things. I would then promote the org on Revel and grow this community beyond the dwindling hangers on that we have become.

Lastly, I would utilise the knowledge of the current fanbase and conduct frequent polls so as to keep my finger on the pulse and therefore make better business decisions regarding output, curation and priorities.

After having viewed all the material I would sell it in cd / vinyl based on the year of registration only the unpublished material (excluding everything that has already been published).I would sell the old remastered lp and I would also make a version in cd accompanied by unpublished material, example: 1978 For You + a cd containing all the music recorded in that year. Then I would create high quality DVDs containing all the videos (rehearsals, concerts, etc.)Remastered the 3 films in dvd in high quality. But first of all I would sell the last album that had just finished before dying and that should have come out in June 2016 (always if it is true that it did)I would make a collection of books of all his photos from when he was little to death (only photos with dates) and publish calendars every year, I would sell a whole series of t-shirts that cover all his career, vappellini, scarves / bandanas, and pendants in the shape of love symbols # 1 and # 2 of different sizes (maximum height 15 cm) and color, poster (even at real height) for each type of album published by him, in short, things like that.

Seriously?! You wouldn’t release a bootleg sourced from a cassette? Jesus. This negativity and having an opinion on the org. It’s shameful.
