All in the name...

I was just recently thinking about how people tend to name their children by the name of someone they admire. Notice that MJ named his son "Prince"? I wonder what P thought of that. Prince named his son "Amiir" and was later on friends with Questlove, whose given name is "Ahmir". I don't think they knew each other at that time? Anyone know the time frame on that? Just interesting how it all happens.

MJ named his sons Prince after his grandfather. Plus he always had had a thing for royalty. In the 80's he reared a pair of deer and named them Prince and Princess.

I don't recall Prince ever calling his son Amiir.

MJ naming his son Prince is probably a nod to his "King of Pop" status (a name he orchestrated giving himself by the way). I also think it's a bit of a subtle stab at Prince, but not his main motivation; probably a happy coincidence since they MJ just never understood Prince as much as Prince loved MJ. And the larger truth is that MJ named his sons after himself. They're both named Michael Jackson in some fashion. Prince Michael Joseph Jackson, Jr, and Prince Michael Jackson II. He literally has two juniors, which I thought was rather ridiculous. It's like "this is my brother Darrell and my other brother Darrell". And yes, his maternal grandfather's name was Prince Albert. So that is correct as well. (Just sayin', the naming is probably multi-layered).

As far as Amiir: You should do your Prince homework about their deceased child. Mayte confirmed that they named their son Amiir, which translates to Prince. Her book, The Most Beautiful, gave that revelation after all this time. The "boy Gregory" was also explained and the child's name was never Gregory. I thought it was someone else's last name close to them, but I forget off hand. (It's in the book.)

A note about his Paris Jackson: There is a long-standing story, that could very well be true, about how Paris got the name she did. MJ was friends with Kathy Hilton, and Marianna Latsis. Marianna is married to a Greek shipping tycoon. All three had a pact that they would name their kids Paris because they all loved the city so much. Paris Hilton was born first, then Latsis two years later, then Jackson much later.

Paris Latsis is the heir to his father's shipping fortune (which is massive). Latsis dated Paris Hilton for a short while about 13 years ago or so, and were engaged about 3 months before breaking up.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

I don't need a lecture on MJ, nor on Prince or the Hiltons.

I don't care what Mayte says now that Prince has passed. I don't recall him ever calling his son Amiir.

Maya Angelou said when someone shows you who they are, believe them the first time. I believe you. I believe exactly as you've presented yourself. Thank you for that. I truly appreciate it.

I don't believe Prince ever publicly called the child by any name, or acknowledged its gender even. Or, for that matter, saying the child died. What's your point?

That is the truth!!! If we waited on Prince to acknowledge the baby even existed, we'd be well into eternity before it happened. Which sorta makes me wonder if whoever believes they even had a baby, especially since Prince never acknowledged him. Saying "our family exists" is not saying "we had a baby"...not even close.

Amir was the belly dance master from Egypt that Mayte and her mother were into. Prince would not have named his son after a man HIS woman admired, gay or not.

In their Inside story for InStyle over in Marbella Boy Gregory was mentioned and in the original issue there was an editor's note adding that their baby had died, again being called Boy Gregory. There is no reason for Prince not to state the correct name and you can be sure that he had the last word on how the story was printed. If he did want to protect the child he would not have needed to give them any name.

Ate you serious?
The child's birth and death certificates exist.
Due to people like you, the police investigated the child's death after a criminal complaint.
The FBI investigated the extortion attempt by the nannies who tried to sell photos of that poor child.
Really? You say the child did not exist?

No wonder Prince kept things quiet. I hope you never have to live through anything like that, publicly, with tabloids nipping at your heels.
Or maybe I hope you do.

MJ loved his grandfather very dearly. I think this whole Amir is coming from MAYTE! The baby was named Boy Gregory Nelson. I am being to wonder since that Prince is no longer with us. Mayte can call HER baby whatever name she chooses. prince

LOL No he wasn't. Who names their kid BOY, especially a black man?! That's some white girl shit, right there. The mother's name is listed as Mia Gregory and the father isn't listed at all. Who is Mia Gregory?? Explain that one.

Let me do it for you: Mayte checked into the hospital under the name Mia Gregory, for privacy. It's typical to put "boy ______" or "girl ______" on a newborn without a name, filling in the blank with the mother's last name. So "boy Gregory" is a hospital procedure, not what Prince named his kid. Gheezus.

By the way, Mayte probably had an NDA with Prince, as did most others. When he died, those were over, which is why everyone is talking after he died. Not hard stuff to figure out.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

LOL How ridiculous. I never said that. Fix your glasses and read it again.

My reference to "whoever" was to CatB, who says they didn't hear Prince mention his son and that they implied they doubted anything Mayte said. So if CatB never heard Prince mention his son, or believes Mayte is some liar, why would CatB believe the baby existed at all? There was little evidence out of Prince's mouth, according to her. So, re-read the post again. I'm well aware Amir existed and his name. So calm yourself. hahahahahahahaha

In all your condescending mansplaining you are too blind to read and it shows YOUR attitude on the subject.

Nowhere did I say that the child never existed and if I were you I'd think twice before putting claims like that in my mouth.

What I did was responding to Seahorsie's wondering why Prince called his son Amiir. I said I don't recall him ever calling his son Amiir. Cause it's a fact.

All else is your interpretation and an attempt to bait others to attack me. For which you will be reported.

Wow!!!!! Let's try try to remain calm here. I was just thinking about how names can appear in your life, and sometimes later on you may even meet (and admire) a person on the same name. Yes, I had read that in other instances he was listed as "Gregory" too.

Maybe MJ did have other reasons for naming his son "Prince", such as now here is the son of the "King of Pop", but you got to admit, it is a little weird that happened, no matter the motivation.

Here I figured 'ol Bart would chomp down on me for just thinking out loud, and it wasn't! Try to be kinder to one another, and it will come back to you tenfold. (I know, some are ignorant & mean, but hey, it's Karma, baby.)

Hey girl. Just something to consider: If folks think about it, there is no reason for her to lie. It's such a dismal and negative stance to take on someone who obviously captured his heart. It's a wonderful love story between them. You should read it. She was the first he put a ring on, and her side of it is well worth the read. I'd also be interested to read Manuela's, too. Besides, isn't real life always way more interesting than fiction anyway? Her telling the truth is her best bet. She knows how much Prince fans want those truths anyway. Do yourself a favor, and read the book. Honestly, it's way better than even I thought it would be (not perfect, just real). It will also tell you the whole story about Amiir. (I mean, she did birth the kid after all! She was there! haha)

I pre-ordered it and then someone told me about some Fans who said What's written in it and I didn't know If I want to read it. But it arrived and I thought, okay, give her a Chance. That Said, I Love the book, because of their story but more for the fact that she talked about how she dealt with the pain of losing her child and it helped me dealing with my own fears of losing Loved ones too soon, it helped me a big deal coping with my anxiety attacks. I'm actually glad that she wrote how she dealt with the pain, so I can learn.

Ok. Was just at Barnes & Noble a couple of weeks ago, but bought other tomes instead. Thanks, and I may pick it up sometime then. I know, my writing shows me tooo much as female. (Can't help what you are!) This was such a great day; my grandson turned 13 today and we rocked out to music together. Of course I am guiding him along with his musical tastes! Purple music being the best, of course. What do those other people that don't appreciate music do with their lives anyhow????

hmm crysball
