I'm blanking. I'm trying to remember singers who have portrayed other reallife singers in movies. Usually it's actors who portray singers. Janet was supposed to do Lena Horne. Time keeps on slipping into the future...

I would pay money for it to be a Spike Lee documentary. And I'm talking like a 4-parter. A Prince biopic makes me cringe at the mere thought.
The New Edition and Bobby Brown biopics that just aired on BET were WAY BETTER than I would have thought, but they were 6 and 5 hours, respectively. (I suppose without commercials maybe an hour or two shorter.) And though I REALLY like both acts, I'm not nearly as vested in either like I am in Prince. As huge of a fan of 2Pac as I am, I knew from the first second of the first trailer I had no intention of seeing that movie because seeing a copy of 2Pac is laughable. I believe the same is the case for Prince. It's amazing that Prince was even able to pull off being Prince!
(And please don't anybody propose that guy that was writhing all over the stage floor and screaming at one of the early Prince tributes... I can't remember his name and I'm not about to look him up.)
I saw those biopics too and had no vested interest in either, but like you pdiddy, I was pleasantly surprised. I guess going in to something with no expectation would leave a larger playing field for the "Hmmm....that's interesting" reaction. Style is the second cousin to class |

Bruno doesn’t look anything like Prince. It would actually be hilarious seeing him try to do the same facial expressions and mannerisms that Prince did 😂 he won’t be able to pull it off |

Well the article doesn’t say he will be in it, just that he is being considered. Never gonna happen. I doubt Mars would even be interested. He has his own thing going on and it would not make any sense for him to even seriously consider. |

Okay, thank you.
So far, singers who are also known as actors though.

It's the classic "no-win" scenario.
And Bruno Mars needs to quit smoking. Smoking is for losers. Wouldn't hurt for him to lay off the coke, too. A certain kind of mellow. |

Jennifer isn't a good actress though, I just don't get it with her as an actress I'm not saying all that. I'm just trying to figure out why even a non actor no matter how popular the name is would even be considered for this. Strange to even make such a project a debut into acting. Sounds like something not a lot of thought is being put into it. Making the focus more about Bruno and his career than about Prince and his legacy. Tacky. Time keeps on slipping into the future...

FAKE NEWS! Not gonna happen! And Bruno would never agree to doing this, he loves and respects Prince too much.
Bruno Mars not playing Prince in new movie
A representative for Bruno Mars says a report claiming he will portray Prince in a new movie is "100 percent false."
The Daily Mirror, a British tabloid, published a story over the weekend saying that Mars was "being lined up to play Prince" in a biopic to air on Netflix. The story was picked up by several online sites and was circulating widely.
But Mars' representative says the story is not true and Netflix says there's no film in development.
Paul Cockerton, online deputy digital editor, said in an email to The Associated Press that the paper was reaching out to the reporter on the story to see if it needed to be corrected or clarified, and checking with Netflix and Mars for an official statement.
Prince died at age 57 in 2016.
Mars performed a show-stopping, memorable tribute to Prince at the 2017 Grammy Awards when he sang "Let's Go Crazy."

Statements like what's highlighted above are how ideas like this are even plausible. And I couldn't disagree more that the tribute was show-stopping. I didn't think it was good at all. And that's not to say Bruno Mars isn't very, very talented.

At the premier private screening of "Dreamgirls"( a movie I worked in) the audience was in complete tears at Jennifer Hudson's performance. Thank God! The Org isn't the deciding decision on what's talented and what's deserving of an award. SMH
Not to mention Eddie Murphy's Academy Award performance that he was robbed an Oscar for."That mountain top situation is not really what it's all cracked up 2 B when was doing the Purple Rain tour had a lot of people who knew 'll never c again @ the concerts.just screamin n places they thought they was suppose 2 scream." |

Dreamgirls wasn't a biopic about reallife people. You missed my point. How many singers who have no acting credential have ever portrayed an icon on screen? That was my question. So far it seems to be none really. Janet, Jennifer, and Andre have acting credits outside of portraying singers. There have been loads of biopics on singers, on Icons, but it is normally an actor who portrays them. Would you think it a bit bizarre, the rare time it's done, is for BM to experiment with his acting chops on a biopic of Prince? I personally have nothing against BM doing whatever he needs to do for his career but seriously THIS, right now? Not decades down the road, but while the wounds are still fresh for the loyal hardcore fans. After all the other crap that has been going on. So, everything is supposed to marketed towards the people who know little to nothing about Prince? Everything?
Dreamgirls is a film à clef, a work of fiction taking strong inspiration from the history of the Motown record label.

Your right. All that came to mind was Mahogany, totally forgot about LSTB. It was great but then again it was Diana.

Yeah, I still stand by what I said. Note the generational distance, and it still is rare given the number of them that have been done. And all this was a joke anyway so that's that.
