“Walking into Paisley Park and seeing all of Prince’s bandmates … New Power Generation…. John Blackwell, Morris Hayes, Mike Scott, it was amazing. We idolized them. We were terrified, nervous and hungry…we wanted to prove ourselves. So we started working, learning music, and then Prince walked in. He asked if we needed anything. I said water, he actually went and got our water. He didn’t send someone. I was so confused. I didn’t mean to send Prince to get my water. But that’s the kind of guy he was.
Prince was very polite. He was quiet… but not shy, if he chooses to say something it’s going to be profound.”
He never treated us like employees, we were his bandmates
“I am deeply wounded by the loss of my friend and mentor. Prince IS more than any artist can ever dream to be; he was a greater teacher than any university."

"he’s a very smart man. He’s a great teacher too. He’s one of the people that taught me from the beginning to own my own masters and keep my own stuff and don’t give it up.
That’s great advice, especially for creative material " The bass is a big part of Prince’s sound, and that’s because 98 percent of it is him playing bass. To play with him, you gotta be able to emulate his style. And he preferred that bass players use 4-strings. "I call Prince’s bass technique “dirty funk” because there was a sloppiness to the way that he played, and that’s what gave him his sound. It’s meatier, dirtier, and fuller. It’s a feel thing". ......... you’d better get it quickly, because by the time it came out of his mouth, he had already moved on to the next idea.
"Being a member of the New Power Generation was like going to the Special Forces, as opposed to the regular Army, Navy, or the Marines. Prince was a perfectionist in a world where perfection doesn’t exist. He was an amazing cat, and I’m so blessed that I got to work with him. My heart is forever broken by his loss"s." "People like this dont come by every day.. I think they skip 100 or 200 years.. he was our Maestro, our Van Gogh our Leonardo Davinci.. he was our Mozart..of our Day..." "Working with him...Incredible life experience..something that very few people on this Planet had to experience him from the inside out... I just don't think he was like you and I.. and I mean ALL OF us.. I think that he was genius YES he was talented beyond words YES.... he was very animated ..sense of humor that was very witty and cute.. all the things we know are there..."
"BUT.. a talent like that just doesn't become a talent like that.. Its within you.. the light switch is either off or on.. In him..it was ON and he just couldn't turn it off... He couldn't help but do what he did.. he couldn't help himself..to turn that light OFF.. it just wasn't happening..." "Hes undeniable...whether you are into his music or not.. I just think he is undeniable..." "In the end...I think he loved us all..." Princes personal assistant 1984-1992 [Edited 9/10/18 2:42am]

"His death was mind-blowing. Then again, he was always mind-blowing and he always had a grand sense of drama." "everywhere he went, he turned it into a piece of his world. A space worthy enough to contain him, as befits a grand strategist. He demanded a lot but gave more." "He could both read minds and place thoughts, like the ancient eastern yogis. And if you were full of shit, you would be very uncomfortable around him ".
"He was a Buddha of culture and a font of wisdom, though he endured at times harsher judgements than was healthy for his soul to bear. His great weakness was in not accepting his weakness, and he would punish himself for this".
"And whether he is living or dead, or hovering in the various states in between, .........He did not go anywhere: he just wised up finally, sensibly, and left us trifling bitches behind."
"His body belongs to the earth, but his mind belongs to us all. The awesome force of his will created new worlds. It feels very much as if one of my own lifetimes has moved on and it is profoundly and unexpectedly moving."
"I loved him. All of his bitches loved him! May he rest in the peace he has earned."

RJP1205 said: "In the end...I think he loved us all..." Insert tears here...💜 How giving and profound is the above quote, he doesn’t hold P’s love hostage Only for himself instead he spread it, he spread it like a quilt on us all. I do believe his Actions of speaking those words makes Prince immensely proud. He understood him in the most profound way.

"A talent like Prince doesn’t happen by accident. He was an unrivaled musical genius. His flamboyant style distracted many people from his underlying skill. He could write amazing songs, play every instrument on his albums and perform like James Brown, Jimi Hendrix, Sly and the Family Stone and Little Richard combined. He was born talented and then worked relentlessly to make the most of his gifts. In Prince we caught a glimpse of the creative power of God as it flows through human hands. We heard sounds and felt things that were not of this Earth"
"He constantly referenced God, talked to his audiences about taking them to church, quoted Scripture and prayed on and offstage"
“Don’t die without knowing the cross,” he chanted. The style and energy of gospel music was intrinsic to his sound, of course, but there was more to it than that. For Prince, everything was spiritual, even things that made Christians like me very uncomfortable.
"It seems that Prince simply didn’t recognize boundaries. Whether it was the way he melded the grit and groove of traditionally African-American musical styles with the bravado of white rock, or the way he invoked Biblical images and Christian references while celebrating unbridled and frequently ambiguous sexuality, he seemed to not care if others thought such things belonged together. While it’s clear that, at least in his first few decades of creative output, Prince was no advocate of anything resembling a traditional theological understanding of self-discipline, holiness or chastity, there’s no way to see his music as inherently secular."
"He also seemed to become increasingly thoughtful in his own understanding of the things of God. He converted to the Jehovah’s Witness faith in 2001. .... he recorded a cover of Nichole Nordeman’s "What if". It’s an explicitly Christian song from a CCM artist. Someone like Prince shouldn’t even have known it existed"
"While it would require unnecessary conjecture to say that by the end of his life Prince was absolutely a Christian, it is clear that he was in pursuit of God and an understanding of who Jesus is" The Spiritual Enigma that was Prince

. Songs We Love: Prince, 'Baltimore'
May 9, 201511:39 AM ET
Heard on All Things Considered
.
In a sly way, Prince has always been a political artist. Like Marcel Duchamp upending the art world with his readymades, he stormed the pop scene courting controversy, but always with a wink. [...] Like Jimi Hendrix, he's made bold statements within a veil of feedback and funk. Most of all, like his role model George Clinton, he's created a utopian space where partying allows for transcendence that eliminates all –isms and makes us the best people we can be. . Now, with "Baltimore," Prince is trying on a different protest singer's hat — he's playing funky Pete Seeger, leading chants and rousing hearts to inspire activism in a specific place and time. [...] At its peak, "Baltimore" presents itself as a new "Dancing in the Streets" — a song that offers a brand new beat in the name of real change. . Lala Escarzega April 29, 2016
Someone managed to post this online. I'm not sure who. -This is my very first video with Prince. 💔 Shot in LA, on all green screen. I made Q Tip nervous.
I didn't know anything about the video plot until I showed up. And I think it's plot changed quite a few times.
There was supposed to be a continuation where Prince took me by the hand and it would lead into the next video. But that never happened because I got a lot of hate in P's circles and I was the new girl.
I had no idea what I was getting into. Lol
I met Prince through Fatima. If you're a dancer in the industry, you know who Fatima Robinson is.
I had gone to one of her auditions in December of 2008 and that day, I wasn't even going to go. Somehow I still did even though I was late.
It was a very very busy audition and we we're learning the choreography in groups. (An audition completely unrelated to Prince).
I was probably in the 7th group of the day. Charm LaDonna was teaching. I was all the way in the back, couldn't see a thing... Fatima just so happened to pass by me as she was looking at all the dancers.
I stopped her and said, "hey do you think we can review this part" (demonstrated some choreo)... She just stopped, stared at me and smiled.
She said, "I think I have a friend who would like you"
I said, "oh! Who?"
She said, "Prince"
My eyes went big. I think I stumbled over my words and lost my breath.
As they say... The rest is history.
I had just been a part of and left a girl group called Nikki 16 that was entirely based off of Prince's former group of the 80's, Vanity 6... but I really did not know much about him or his music then.
I ended up meeting with him for the very first time about a week later at his 77 Beverly Park residence. When he had a party.
I loved that house. So many memories.
I remember everything about the first time we met.
I remember how nervous I was. And how shocked I was about how tiny he was, lol.
He had planned to put me on tour soooooo many times after we met I lost count, lol.
Unfortunately, because I was compared so much to Mayte, I don't think he ever felt comfortable.
I actually never knew who Mayte even was. Believe it or not, all my life people would tell me I looked like this girl named Mayte.
It wasn't until I met Prince that I really learned about her. I had so much awe and respect for her though. Prince would show me old videos and tell little anecdotes.
I got a lot of slack over the years for my pure coincidences related to her. The way I moved, the way I looked. P wanted me to dye my hair blonde at one point to avoid any resemblance. Haha It sucked. A lot. Lol
Prince taught me allllllll about his music. And much, much more.
A few years later, Prince thanked Fatima for introducing him to me. Which I felt was the sweetest & biggest compliment. He was such a gentleman and so humble.
I am so grateful and feel so blessed and amazed that my fate led me to know him and become such a good friend of his up until his passing. I never would've guessed in a million years that my timeline in life would align with such an incredible soul. 💜

“Working with Prince was such an inspiration, such a stamp of approval. Whenever I get insecure about my playing or me being a musician, I think that Prince wanted me. Prince wanted me back and he wants me in his band and to record with him. It was my go-to place when I was telling myself I was going to stop. I’ll never be Coltrane, but I found my sense of purpose and a lot of that comes from him.”
“I was one of his biggest fans,” “I would play hard to get with him. That way he would keep me longer. He really liked that. He thought I was crazy, but he liked that I was independent. We would butt heads. We were totally opposite characters. I totally respect him.' “I tried to pick his brain so many times about everything. I’m very lucky. I know that.... I’ve been just so lucky to be present where I could sit next to him, see how he played guitar and what he did with his vocals.” "My goal, however, was to make him happy. “If he was really, truly happy, that was such a great feeling,” “It was amazing that I could make a genius happy with my sound, by playing a good solo for him. That was the ultimate compliment. “I see him as the Mozart or Beethoven of our time. "

“I’ve only loved him my whole life,” “so, thank you Prince for honoring me tonight.”
Today is a very sad day. His music rearranged me... he will forever be my #1 April 21 2016 “Purple music can't be judged, it happens naturally” - Prince 💜✨

"There are no words..... everything I am and everything I do is because he was alive.. He was probably one of the biggest influences of my life not only because of his courage but because of how Free he was... and how many people loved him...
I saw him a month before his passing, And Prince was throwing some party and he was saying something about how he was going to write his life story. And it was pretty amazing for me to get to tell him, “You know that I am alive and I exist because of you, right?” And he would go, “Aw, man, shut up!” He always says that. But, in the back of his mind, he’s like, “Yeah I know.” [Laughs.] Prince was quite aware how influential he was to people like myself and D’Angelo. I mean right now the emotions just come... Theres a lot of songs people havent even heard... that I love from him... Joy in Repetition” is probably hands-down the illest thing I’ve ever heard him do.
For me its everything.. its all of his music... Everything, He,s everything...

NIk West posted this a while back but Funkenberry has got it up again. I found this sweet and a little sad..there is a video of P singing Thy Will is Done..gorgeous.
Prince, This particular day in February 2016, I was supposed to meet you near the elevator for a surprise. I walked to the elevator, you came out of your room, saw what I was wearing, and said "I've got to go change now!!" We walked to your room and I ate every strawberry and mango you had in there lol! As we sat in your hotel room, we ate (I showed you a cool Ethiopian way to eat rice wrapped in bread) so much food. We listened to the playback of one of your live #pianoandamicrophone shows #ThyWillBeDone and you loved it so much, you asked me to film this little clip as you set up the scene. You took the cane off your bed brought it to the kitchen and laid it on the counter...you took off your beanie and placed it strategically. You stood behind me and directed my phone in the way you wanted it recorded. I watch this now and I feel your presence and I can smell the jasmine candles. You went to change into something that matched me, (I can see our outfits now...maroon and gold) you fluffed your fro, and we went out. The next day we listened to some more music and talked about a plan we put together for the summer then we spent the whole night watching the movie #InsideOut.... Lol Again! I think of you today and I am sad but the words in this song bring me joy! And somehow you knew it would someday. Today, for the first time in my life, I cry tears of sadness and joy at the same time. #ThyWillBeDone #PrinceDay #HappyPrinceDay #HappyBirthdayPrince #NothingCompares2U #Prince #love #art
