[Edited 8/29/18 14:46pm] I haven’t noticed a lot of Louis Vuitton ads on TV. Maybe it’s different with makeup. Anyway I do think there is a difference. Prince was friends with fashion designers and attended ashion shows. Chelsea Rogers video was filmed at a Matthew Williamson show. So I’m not as bothered if high end fashion brands use his music. Now if we all of a sudden start seeing his music in Walmart or food ads...then I’ll probably think differently. Paisley Park is in your heart

This usage would have been approved by the estate and, as such, could have vetoed the licensing of it.

Also ‘all the times’ that the ads were so popular that even people who are ‘not a fan’ can recall

Yeah near the bit where it says log out 3121

I think it sucks and reduces his art to branding but I recognise that they're well within their rights to do whatever it takes to pay their taxes. I'm well within my rights to moan about it as well. If it gets a few new fans they'll be the kind of people who get into music via advertisements, yay, true music fans

It’s pop music for god sakes. A a wonderful music video for it.

And yet Prince rarely allowed his "pop music" to be used in advertisements. [Edited 8/30/18 5:36am]

I actually dig it. Prince would dig it. Plus, as laytonian said, I want his music out there... for more reasons than one. "He's a musician's musician..."

In the ad, no one says anything, just a minimalist beautifully shot video of Natalie grooving to the track. It’s brilliant advertising for Prince and his brand.

HA! (now that was funny)

I feel torn by it. I like the advert, but don't think prince would have allowed it if he was alive. So it's a mixture of feelings

Prince never wanted to distract from his own performance imagery of his music. Still sad. To me, hearing Al Green and Marvin Gaye selling disposable crap distracts from the music.

Prince didnt give a fuck enough for a will, so dont feel bad. "Climb in my fur."

Dior isn't considered trashy, the commercial was fine and a well-known face involved (as the Dior spokesperson) made it just right Welcome to "the org", Mumio…they can have you, but I'll have your love in the end

yeah he knew it would happen and as he had let some of his music be used in ads even more so...(Tina Turner sang "Baby I'm a Star" for a Target ad and he let Chuck E Cheese use and alter the lyrics of "I Feel For You" for a video in their restaurants.
That being said I do not like it... "Keep on shilling for Big Pharm!"

Love the ad. The song sounds timeless and classic, and this is like having a new mini-video for the song.

The only thing I can think of is Verizon and the Guitar single. But as you say, that was a promotional tie in for his own music.
