"KISS" in new advertisement

It was going to happen. We are just used to it not being in ads, but this is a post-Prince world. It is a business. I do not think it will cheapen his legacy. The legacy is solid & in stone. As long as “Starfish & Coffee” is used for Folger’s, I think we will be okay. Although if we saw “Computer Blue” or “Interactive" in an Apple ad, I would not be upset.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

Can't think of many times his music was used in ads.

I can't see how anyone would have an issue with his music being used in ads. He didn't leave a will so no specific instructions were used re usage of his music in ads. If it leads to greater awareness of his music amongst people, it's all good.

Nothing wring with it.
Y'all want his music to fade away?

I think everybody's had enough exposure to 'Kiss' already. It's one of the few Prince songs you still hear on radio and that the majority know.

Personally, I'd be more interested in lesser-known gems being promoted, but nobody gives a shit what we think anyway.

The ad's for lipstick. They're hardly going to use "Dolphin".

We are not corporations paying fees to use the music.
They were likely allowed to select Kiss, which is perfect for a lipstick ad.

Yes, don’t understand why they didn’t use One Kiss At A Time or Wasted Kisses wink

Awesome ad though! Nothing wrong with it in my opinion. It’s hot and beautifully shot. If more like this we’re produced it would certainly get more people (younger generations/ to seek out his music.
Free Prince ad.

They got natalie Portman to do a Prince video! How cool is that!

Love it!

You know that part in the extended version of Kiss where he says, "Ooooh shit"? That's what I said when I saw that red lipstick.

I just ordered it. redface

We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

One Kiss At A Time will probably be used in an 'intimate lubricant' ad very soon ;-)

Not sure about Wasted Kisses. Maybe a campaign for abstinence? smile

Sad. Prince had so much integrity with his music. I knew this was coming based on the direction of the Estate, hopefully they maintain some class.

There was a live commercial shot of Little Red Corvette for the 50 year anniversary and promotional tie-ins for his own independent music...what else?

Is there a difference? High end fashion brands advertise on TV.

That lipstick costs $37US btw.

The German VW Beetle ad with Housequake : http://prince.org/msg/7/224216

But can’t seem to find that online today.

It’s possible that music use in ads was quite different in diferent territories. I could never really see it resonating in the UK. And in the US perhaps he was more careful with the licensing? You know the cliche about Hollywood stars picking up big cheques for ads in Japan, but not wanting to sully themselves in front of their home market? Though in the social media age, that feels hopelessly out of date 😏

I'm really not getting some people's dismissive reactions to this.

Prince is dead and I'd much rather that as many people as possible know about his music, especially younger generations. Whether it's through hearing the track on this ad or hearing his music on streaming platforms like Spotify (and trust me, I'm no fan of streaming), it's a good thing. His legacy should be kept alive.

Plus it's a classy ad and Natalie's hot.

And every time you exaggerate this BS...you have Trump’s concept of facts. Prince did minimal commercials in his 35+ year career. Part of the business discussion following his death are the many untapped ways to exploit his music in movies, commercials, Madison Avenue, etc.

I don’t understand why you always want to bash his remarkable artistic integrity.

Was there a short lived Apple one, that was played during one of the award shows a couple of years back? Most people complained about it, I remember that.
