Latin, thanks for posting this! I hugely appreciate it.

Leisl is sweet and funny and I hope by the end of the series you will all feel like you know her, and that you also know a little bit more about Prince by seeing him through her eyes.

Stay tuned for tomorrow's post: Behind the making of "Gangster Glam."

yeah, I really need to follow that "wait 24 hours before you post rule". In retrospect, it doesn't even matter.

"Even in her career as a model, the color of her skin prevented her from getting jobs in 1980s Minneapolis....But what was in demand during that era was the “All-American girl".

that's interesting because all I remember seeing in the 80's, in music videos were primarily women who looked just like her. No doubt if she would have went West she would have been in a music video.

"...and didn’t put a lot of emphasis on what your color your skin is.”

I know it's been discussed a hundred times, but to be in Prince’s circle of special friends, overwhelming evidence does point to the fact that an emphasis was placed on skin color.... and before someone comments, "and??????"; nothing, just felt like getting it off my chest. AND because it annoys the $%*# out of me that he seemed to be so limited in what he found appealing/attractive.

I dont know...

THere is a whole LOT of Anecdotal evidence that Boys are attracted to women who look like their mothers..

I know this to be true of my two sons..

Both their partners could be ME in another life...

Dark Hair Greenish eyes, buxom and longlegged..

Prince,s mother was light skinned...

Maybe his choices were more "unconscious" in that he was drawn to lighter skinned women..

and simply NOT drawn to darker skinned women..

although he did have a few..

Nona Gaye and Ananda Lewis (reported not confirmed ) being two that I can think of.

At the end of the day, I think he was attracted to what was UNDER the skin since there are varying shades in his catalogue (ahem ahem)

of WOmen...

Not that it'll help how you feel but he was attracted to what he grew up around which is quite normal.

Thanks for taking the time to reflect and respond. I apologize for the edit, in the light of day, it doesn't seem that pressing or important.

Thanks for a great read. It shed light on a few things I always wondered about since watching that video for the first time on VHS. I love the fact that we are now hearing from the woman of Prince. I always wondered how he kept their mouths shut while he was alive. I guess it was just respect for the man.

You have seen pictures of his mother, sisters and other relatives. Being light skinned wasn't unique in his world. He wasn't raised in Sweden.
