Do you think the estate should start using the Prince Twitter account?

Saw this in my Twitter feed this afternoon:

2lnigs7.jpg

It’s only a promoted tweet so it doesn’t show up on his twitter page. But you can still search for it like you would a normal tweet. I’m not sure what I think about the estate using Prince’s Twitter account like this. With a lot of celebrities social media accounts it’s obvious they’re being run by marketing or PR people. In the case of Prince though most of the time when there was a tweet you knew it came from him. I don’t think I want the estate using his Twitter account or if they do at most just promoted tweets that don’t show up on his page. But even that feels weird. neutral confused

No it doesn’t. It would be different had his Twitter account just been a PR account run by someone else but it wasn’t. Still not sure how the estate promotes this stuff though. Do they create Prince estate social media accounts? Do they use Paisley Park accounts? confused

It doesn't matter to me because I don't use Twitter but I imagine it would be a good way for them to promote future releases. If there's going to be future releases, that is.

I don't know. I've seen other celeb twitters, but I'm not sure if someone is still posting on them.

Yeah, I see a couple who still have someone posting on them.

Someone is posting on Tom Petty’s Twitter account but I’m guessing he never posted there himself. Most of the tweets on Prince’s account came from Prince himself.

Someone's posting on Joan Rivers. None in Nimoy, Bourdain, Williams I guess never had one. There is one for MJ.
Some have tribute sites I guess.

No way. The last tweet from his account should be his last tweet.

A Separate estate account, fine.

No. Prince's twitter page should remain Prince's twitter page, with no one else using his account. Prince engaged his fans on that page and the fans always knew it was Prince. I still visit there sometimes, when I'm missing him, to look at his tweets. No, no one else should use his account. They can create a new twitter page.

See the estate is using a Twitter feature which allows an account to promote a tweet without that tweet ever showing up on their page. For instance if you go to @Apple Twitter page it says there are zero tweets. Yet I see promoted tweets from @Apple all the time. When you go to Prince’s twitter page this is what you see:

fpcght.jpg
The promoted tweet is nowhere to be found. That’s why I’m conflicted on whether they should use @Prince this way or not. Honestly I think the estate should create @PrinceEstate or something for all of social media and use that when they have more things to promote (which they will). Since Prince’s account (both Twitter and Instagram) was really him and not some publicist or marketing person they should stay unmolested.

No, no, and no.

-

It was his private account and it should be kept as such. If it was up to me, I wouldn't alow anyone to use my social media accounts after death.

-

When I was at university, one of the students passed away and someone wrote under her Facebook name that she was dead. I felt very uneasy about that. I didn't know her personally, but I wouldn't feel OK if I did. I sometimes chat to my friends on social media and we exchange private information and I definitely wouldn't approve of anyone else having access to our conversations.

sad I miss him. But I really wish he had learned how to retweet people. After he copied and pasted what I had tweeted, he removed a space between my name and "What" and someone went out and created a username with @benni1028What so that it would show up on their page, instead of mine. It really hurt my feelings that they did that and still does, if I'm honest. The person doesn't even use that twitter page.

lol It was cute! But frustrating at the same time, because people took fan tweets that he was retweeting as HIS words. Before the other person did that with the name, I had people sending me private messages, wanting to know what I had did to Prince in Atlanta and accusing me of having done something nefarious to him that caused the plane incident. eek

And I just wanted to add, that's why it should just remain strictly Prince's words. They shouldn't even use it to promote anything. Leave it as is.

Yeah because people are allowed to reply to promoted tweets. I don’t want to reply to @prince. But I’m Seeing that tweet constantly in my timeline so they must have paid a pretty penny for it.

They could easily open an account that is called Prince_estate or some such name and pass along whatever that way. I don't want to see his account used for anything else either.

Welcome to "the org", Mumio…they can have you, but I'll have your love in the end nod

I've thought about it and I really don't have a strong opinion about it one way or the other. I see its done both ways so there's no set protocol. I'm interested to see if they do change or if they keep it as is.

But were they always being used that way or was he personally posting on them? For me that’s the difference.

It's weird. I still get the ocassional product announcement email from whatever account Paisely Park uses. Seeing an email in my inbox from "Prince" is unsettling.
