the cool thing about The Arms Of Orion is the part in Partyman (the whistling in the music video)

however the b-side is better than the a-side.. of the cd-single.....

I have always loved this song. I learned it on piano in 1990. It has always been my warm-up song when I sit down to play. There is no valid reason the majority of fans should not embrace this as much as any other song from that period. In fact, with the plethora of older material on Graffiti Bridge, more current tunes like music on Batman was a welcomed balance.

"I Love U In Me" is a sexy slow burn that so many people dismiss because of the surgery line or whatever. The simplicity of that song is absolutely stunning. I wrote a song in the mid-90s and used its basic chord structure as the bridge.

It took me some time too because there is so much much more music of his and most of it much much better. So it kind of gets neglected while it's actually a beautiful little gem. And now that he's "up there" somewhere the lyrics have something comforting.

You "Arms Of Orion" haters are all nuts. This is a great, lovely, melodic song. It's miles better than "Lemon Crush" or "Partyman".

Agreed! Lemon Crush is funky though.

I've always liked this song. I like how Prince's and Sheena's vocals blend together.

This song is all about the blend of Prince and Sheila's vocals. The way the duet moves from Prince to Sheila to the blend.

Life is too short to hate a delightful song like this.

I liked this song for the same reason some Prince fans hated it: The song was an illustration that he could nearly do it all musically, including your typical schmaltzy movie ballad that is a beautiful entry into that genre. Before then, he hadn't made anything this middle of the road that your great grandmother might love. I am glad he gave us this song but even more pleased that it didn't become his norm.

The B-side, "I Love U in Me", is worth noting. It's one of the few songs, in his whole catalogue, where he sings in a much lower register.

Shhh... don't say that out loud. It's bad enough to have listened to other music before you write your own for fear of being influenced--if you admit to anything like this you'll have the estate on you like... well, something that's on something else really tight and/or fast. Whatever... come up with your own similes.

I really like I Love U in Me, though I have to admit that the surgery line throws me--but I do love the fact that even though it simply does not make any sense, the background vocals dig all the way in on it (SURGERY!!!!}. It's stupid and wonderful in equal measure.

i've found myself revisiting songs i never liked (which are only about half a dozen in prince's entire
released and unreleased catalogue to start with) and it is a bit like discovering new prince music

we're in a major drought and we need some 'new' songs, be it from the 80s or the 10s.

as far as 'arms of orion' is concerned, i've found that people who don't like prince music at all, will
warm to this song instantly. perhaps because it sounds a bit more generic and like regular movie
ballad stuff. someone even borrowed (and never returned) my batman album especially for this 1
song.

i used to ask them 'so what did you think of "vicki waiting" or "electric chair"? but they were very,
very vocal about them all being as shit as everything else prince did, except for "arms of orion"

needless to say i had to cut this person out of my life

The general consensus was tht it was mostly hated here and abroad in the purple fandom kingdom. I think because it's a conventional sounding song as well as seemingly corny back then. I admit since he passed I dont mind it and even think it quite a pleasant song.

I love the entire Batman soundtrack, except Arms Of Orion. Happy others are warming up to it though. There's a fan for every Prince song. Probably even Purple And Gold.

I agree that it is partly about people listening to some of the songs they rarely listened to in his catalogue while waiting for new releases. I imagine that the rarely listend to stuff is songs that were someof their least favorite Prince songs. They are willing to give it a fresh ear now. I do wonder if some of the negative consensus back them about anything that might not be top notch Prince was also partly due to people not wanted to be demeaned by claiming that they did like it. So many people came and went from the org due to the negativity, and the demeaning tone was probably a factor.
