The Undertaker and The Beautiful Experience with possible extra Love 4 One Another VH1 special and Sacrifice of Victor should get a proper release DVD/CD. They have been bootlegged heavily but also I shown it to people that never saw it and were impressed with The Undertaker in particular. Something like this would be perfect as a Pledge Music release. Adding a Sonny T and Michael Bland interview as bonus to The Undertaker would make for a solid release.

What are you outraged about today? CNN has not told you yet?

They sold some craptastic PAL-to-NTSC dub of a Japanese broadcast of something, could be SOV.

That was a VHS copy of The Beautiful Xperience recorded from a Japanese television broadcast. I still have mine.

They sold it for a day or two then stopped. The quality was not the best and was as Bart said a dub from Japanese tv. Many in NPGMC asked them about quality and they said they didn't have the master to the video at Paisley. I sold my copy years ago as what is in circulation is fine. I would definitely want all of these releases and all three mixes of the Undertaker that databank described. The Undertaker would be a nice vinyl release. This would be a good new music club release or Pledge release.

A lot of issue with releasing the Undertaker One big One is royalties having to be paid, Prince does a cover in his jamming, musicians have to be paid for it, Vanessa Marcil an actress is in Undertaker she still may have some pay that has to be given, can’t just put it out now and not pay her for her image. It can be done of course but is the estate looking to get into all of this.

Oh pur-lease, that album is easily gotten as a bootleg. Why do you lot want the same as what's already out there?

Just to clear things up though, the estate and these labels don’t care that we own bootlegs etc... that’s not how they are judging what is coming out and what is not worthy of releasing. And this was the complaint about 4Ever with Moonbeam Levels coming out and everyone saying we have that already, WB is not caring about what is on bootleg.

I couldn't find a link here or on Google, but I have a distinct recollection that he never paid and was later sued by the guy (POV Films?) who filmed The Undertaker.

Don't invent problems when there are none.

People release covers all the time, royalties are being paid, it's a near-automatic process, handled by publishing companies, and it's never been a problem for anyone.

As for actors, unless they're big stars like Robert Downey Jr., powerful enough to ask for a percentage of future profits, they're usually work for hire, paid once and for all for their participation. I doubt Vanessa Marcill had a contract entitling her for a share on future profits (given how things were going at PP at the time, she was lucky if she had a contract at all).

There might be some legal mumbo-jumbo between the Estate and WB regarding whether the Estate is entitled to release it without WB or not, and there may also be a few legalities to sort out with the director depending on his original contract, and that's pretty much it all.

I'm pretty sure The Undertaker wasn't rereleased in 2001, it was TSOV and TBE. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong. The whole masters thing was BS, Prince had sent the film (credited to prince ) to MTV, VH1 and BET, then to WB (credited to Prince) for release. I fail to see how in the world the master copy would have been lost: there were 2 master copies (one for each different credit), and while it's possible that WB has retained one, the one sent to TV has to be somewhere either in the vault or at the filmmakers' production company. In any case it's not a lost film, it has to be possible to recover it somehow.

I don’t think POV Films/Rob Borm were involved in The Undertaker.

IIRC he didn’t get paid for the Gett Off video and asked P about it before a D&P tour show, which he was set to film, and was told ‘you know you shouldn’t be asking me this before a show’ and that was the end of him

I was speculating but as I said I have a distinct memory of him being sued by the POV films guy.

I’m any case, TU was probably a work for hire so it wouldn’t be surprising that PP does not have the master.

Bart rants and may be right, but only to fans.

This is one of the best trojan horses (apart... Het Paard van Troje) to hook casual listeners into Prince's world.
This one never failed to baffle, intrigue and interest friends who did not care about Prince.
But so does the piano medley from Dortmund, or "All My Dreams" and his Love Boat verses.

What is so disappointing with the Estate is that they seem to do the exact opposite of what Prince was all about: being predictable.
There's nothing original in their choices or announcements so far. What they need to do is to exalt the originality,
the extravaganza, the risk-taking, for good or worse, that Prince embodied.
But with Pestlove and His (Symphonic) Orchestra receiving the royal seal,
with PP still a gift shop instead of becoming a School of the Arts, I don't think this is where they're headed.
It was just our imagination, once again.

Yes small parts of it were chopped BET back in the 90’s at that time ran a shit load of commercials it was barely 40 if even, Peach jumped right into the closeup on Mayte holding her hand up to her hear to hear the audience call for her there’s stuff before that, and in the other places similar bad lazy editing is done by BET.

Or maybe the estate does not think this is a worthy release, shit costs money, people just think you slap it on dvd and sell it. Maybe the director or people who worked on it were never paid, maybe the estate really does not want to get into issues like that and just deal with things that they can handle no one knows.

Well, even though it isn't such a novelty to us fans because of the boots, it could be argued that releasing a piano practice session from a Maxell cassette wasn't exactly a predictable move lol

There were plans to release the full set as part of the NPGMC (I recall seeing the animated webpage, but it never went live).
