I love Prince's voice and I love Sheena's voice, so it's a win win song 4 me. It's my favourite track from the Batman soundtrack.

It is. Thank god Nolan came along. Well, Burton took it further into fairy tale fantasy with his sequel, and I kind of like it. Nolan has great aesthetic and characters (or at least the Joker is a great character, actually all the others are meh)... but I don’t think his Batman movies are perfect, not even the second one. He has a problem with all his 3rd acts in his Batman movies for my tastes. My art book: http://www.lulu.com/spotl...ecomicskid

And his action scenes and editing are bad at times..we can critique Nolan all day long but my point was he took Batman out of that fantasy Disney style imho. And Im glad for that. "Climb in my fur."

It's a mood thing. I think it'll always be a mood thing. Time keeps on slipping into the future...

Or maybe people really did look and listen to the song, judge it rationally and explain why they didn't like it. Just because somone doesn't like something doesn't mean it is a negative. A lot of rarely listened to songs are usually because the person listened to it, listened and listened again and it just did not vibe. . Some people act like we should just love eveything Prince did. That is just not reasonable. . Also we are in cyberspace, it is hard to pick up peoples emotions and can be confusing and misjudging. What could be demeaning to someone is joking to another. But I really believe people just were being rational in weighing the song and deamed it not a great Prince song. In cyberspace, I learned a long time ago, you have to have thick skin, and not be emotional. It just isn't the same as talking to someone face to face getting the natural human interaction that really connects people.

I agree with all you have said while also continuing to believe my viewpoint too. There are multiple reasons why people do the things they do .

I haven't heard 'Orion' in perhaps 25 years. (the Batman-case CD was stolen from me and was never able to get one back at the stores) When the album dropped, it was a decent song imo, one of the 4 best on there (one of the 4 singles as well). But pretty fast it became a pudding with too much milk and sugar. I still have no intention to listen to it again. Love U in me was a good surprise, but also that i haven't played in ages. Indeed that surgery line what pulls everybody off....

Orion's arms are wide enough
To hold us both together Although we're worlds apart I'd cross the stars for you "In the heart of a sleepless moon"
"I'll be with you forever" "This is my destiny" "'Till my life is through" The arms of Orion that's where I want to be
Since you've been gone I've been searching for a lover In the Sea of Tranquility I'm drowning without you here, my dear When I am lost and feeling alone
I just look to heaven I find my comfort there God only knows where you are to night "God only knows where you are to night"
"Maybe time will tell me" "'Till then I'll close my eyes and say a prayer for you" (I'll say a prayer for you to) The arms of Orion that's where I want to be
Since you've been gone I've been searching for a lover In the Sea of Tranquility I'm drowning without you here, my dear Orion's heart is bright enough
To shine on both of us The constellations never fail To light the way for love 'Orion's arms are wide enough'
To hold us both together "Although we're worlds apart" ('I'd cross the stars for you') "I'd cross the stars for you" The arms of Orion that's where I want to be
"Since you've been gone I've been drowning" ('lost') "In the sea of tranquility" ('lonely') "Drowning without you here my dear" ('baby') The arms of Orion'
That's where I want to be That's where I want to be ("the arms of Orion") That's where I want to be ("the arms of Orion") Since you've been gone, babe' "Since you've been gone" "I've been drowning", ('drowning') "drowning" Drowning without your love "The arms of Orion" ('arms of Orion')

"I sent him the lyrics 2 the Arms of Orion. He really liked it, put music 2 it and it ended up being on the Batman soundtrack. I'm totally into the stars. Right outside my bedroom window, right over my front guest house, you looked right into Orion. I loved the concept of two lovers apart, looking up at the same stars and wishing they could be together."

It's interesting cause for so long I took no notice of this song but in the last few years I have re-discovered it (and the Batman album) and now love it. I think the orchestration of the song and the interplay between Prince and Sheena's vocals is brilliant. Amazing that he could blend so well with such a squeeky white singer but it totally works - like all their collabs. Beautiful song and a highpoint for me now on the album.

Great track. Always has been. It just became cool to not like it on this board, which is dumb. (Insert something clever here)

No doubt that Prince connected with the lyrics at that time. I think he was inspired to write the music for the lyrics. Songs usually had a direct connection to his life experiences. The song was recorded in early '89...
