The isolated one shows it’s real music by real musicians.
RIP Prince.

Aw, it stops before they go into the rest of it past purple rain... or does it come back after the weird no ad?

I may have asked this before but can’t remember....did everybody see this live on CBS? I thought this was the year CBS implemented a slight broadcast delay because of what happened at the Super Bowl that year. When I do an archive search for stories on the Grammys this year I don’t see a lot of talk about this performance but clearly those in the room loved it.

It comes back. Really annoying though, putting an ad in the middle of it! At least there was only one.

Smart of them to cash in on the never-ending Beyonce hype by bringing this performance back, anything to introduce Prince to younger listeners is good.

Yes, the entire performance has audio with the isolated guitar and vocals.

I wonder if they did it with a software or if they managed to get it from an official source?

Good question! I can't tell, I just know I like it.

I wonder if it would be technically legal to do it with software and post it. I would think that would fall under "reverse engineering" which is usually a term of copyright statements.

Either way... cool

Wow. How do they sing so steadily whilst moving around so much? Really appreciated his guitar playing here. It's so often lost in the mix. Maybe this is why he never got many props as a great guitarist.

I guess on the internet everything is legal until you get caught, which at worst means a cease and desist (they wouldn't get sued for that).

It's the centre channel in the 5.1 surround sound stems. Live broadcasts (and many DVD mixes) in 5.1 used to always isolate the vocals in the centre, but then people began extracting acapella and dialogue tracks, so the conventions for multichannel mixing changed.

This performance was big news worldwide. I was in Spain the day after and photos of them performing were on the front page of more than one newspaper. This was also the performance that kicked-off his commercial comeback, helping pave the way for the Musicology Tour.
