Does that version even exist on bootleg with Prince vocals? It's something I've wanted for a very long time, I love the NPG version of that track. I've got a couple of crappy live boots of it but would love a clean studio version.

Turn Me Loose certainly deserves to be mentioned.

I know this was considererd by some to be a failure but I really think Can I Play With You? is very funky! Not my absolute favorite, but given how it hasn't been mentioned yet I wanted to give it some love.

I think people tend to exagerate that stuff. It takes on some type of special status because it hasn't been released. I can imagine those in the know being stunned that some very good to great stuff wasn't released, and this gives it some type of legendary status. If there really is material that is better than Purple Rain, then it would likely qualify as some of the best popular music ever. I love a lot of his unreleased stuff, but I wouldn't quite put it at that level.

Agreed. I think some of his unreleased material from 1985-1986 stands up to much of what he released in the same time period, but I haven't heard anything from the Purple Rain era that I'd call better than the album itself.
