Prince in contact with old band members/associates before he passed away

Just curious on who and how many old band members/associates Prince reached out to in the last months of his life.

Watched an interview with Dez Dickerson and it was interesting to hear that they were last in contact back in 2004, then spoke only three weeks before Prince died and Dez mentioned that the conversation they had would remain private, I think there were a few similar interviews with others?

Prince was reflecting on the past during the P&M tour and it appeared he may have had plans to reunite/reach out with some of them e.g. The Revolution mentioned this.

Morris Day three months before he died. Jill Jones, Brenda Bennett, Susan Moonsie, and Apollonia around Denise's death, Wendy 3-6 months before he died in attempt to get hold of Susannah (it apparently didn't work), Sonny seemed to mention a relatively recent conversatoin but not sure how close to death, Mark Brown got a few calls within the last couple years of Prince's life. I think there are more but his more recent associates weren't asked about the last time they talked to Prince.

Jill Jones, Brenda Bennett, Susan Moonsie and Apples he didn't reach out to. Prince went to Denise's memorial service and saw them there. Either they asked for an invite to the Oakland Concert, or he invited them to the Oakland Concert. That's when they said that P didn't look well.

I believe that Apples, also went to PP to see him.

The day before he died he had 15k deposited into the accounts of, Brenda & Susan. He also had 15K for Apples but when his people called for Apples bank account number she thought it was a scam and wouldn't give it out.

He also talked to Will Smith a couple of days before he died.

I think he talked to Will the night before (isn’t that what Will said?)
Was that money for Brenda and Susan deposited the day before he died, or was it a bit before that?
Also he responded to some people on email or the phone after Moline. I could see him wanting his young protégés and band members not to be worried.

I think it was that very week that he died that it was deposited, if I remember correctly I believe that Phaedra was 1 of his last emails stating that the money had been transferred to all but Apples.

Without going back and looking for it in the files, I don't have an exact date.

I believe Will Smith said he spoke to him the night before. On release of the phone records though it showed a phone call on the 19th. Unless he spoke to him some other way on a different device.

Prince and Morris Day were in regular contact, for people who lived in different states and worked the music scene. He also spoke to Apollonia regularly as well as Wendy & Lisa -also visiting their studio often in California. From my understanding he did speak with Susannah. Mark Brown was jamming with Prince at Paisley Park and went to a P&M show or two

I think the OP means people from Prince's camp from the early 90s and 80s

Dez, Andre, said something similar about being told something they would keep private

I thought Morris Day played at PP about 5 months prior to 4/21 but said he didn’t even get to talk to P.

I don’t know that there was anything in particular said that was “secret”...I think they’re just saying the conversations will be kept private. I imagine Prince just catching up with them.

If this was the case, he had the nights mixed up, misspoke or or exaggerate.

laytonian

Y'all forget that P was writing memoirs. It would be natural to reach out to people.
The money to the A6 women might have been a way to even up for what he'd given Vanity. Didn't he pay for her funeral and help with her medical expenses?
He may also have finally paid Mazaratti for Kiss LOL.
Welcome to "the org", laytonian… come bathe with me.

I think it was the way it was said that seemed to imply something else

Andre repeated something along the same lines as Prince's sister

dez' interviews were the most intriguing, first, he said their last conversation was the first time they spoke in years and that there was no indication that Prince was near death. I can only assume he was speaking honestly and it makes me wonder why he would keep the convo secret? Is there any reason for it to be kept secret? Maybe Prince thanked him? Maybe he apologized? total mystery.

Because it was just something between two friends who were friends a long time ago. Just between them.

I see nothing wrong it.

didn't imply anything was "wrong it" by not saying what it was it does imply it was something that maybe should be kept secret, i can't see how two buddies shooting the shit would be so significant that it would need to be kept a secret. Secrecy implies something of depth transpired, be it something he thought was personal to prince's health or just something deep between old friends (such as, maybe Prince thanking him for his contributions, or maybe prince apologized for being difficult or.., )

I suppose when someones reflecting back in their life and opens up at a time when they are possibly in a bad place things are going to be said, personal stuff is going to be brought up and kept private, the feeling Im getting though is that a close group have all shared what possibly went down

[Edited 8/5/18 5:44am]

Wendy stated in an interview that Prince had called her 6 months prior to his death to get Susannah's phone number. She said she gave him her number, and it was a very normal conversation. Per Susannah's interview with Toure - two weeks before his plane landed in Moline, Prince's Engineer called her to tell her he wanted to write/record with her again. Prince sent her lyrics to a song - not necessarily the one that they would work on together, but he wanted her to have them. She called his Engineer two days after Moline to ask how he was doing. His Engineer told her all seemed to be okay.

*

Bobby Z stated that he texted Prince after Moline to ask if he was okay. Prince texted back and told him all was okay and said he should come to PP for the upcoming concert, which ended up being his last show there. Bobby said he responded that he wasn't going to make it, but he was glad he was okay.

*

Seems Prince was reaching out to many of the people from his past who had been important to him.

Even past associates who hadn't spoken to him in many years are keeping certain conversations private. Hans Martin Buff, his engineer in the mid to late 90's, stated that there are conversations that he had with Prince that he will never share with anyone. They will remain private. I think that is very respectful and appropriate.

I think it is doubtful that Prince would have discussed anything related to his physical health, other than to respond that he was okay if asked how he was feeling. We know from statements made by several associates that when they asked Prince or those in his camp at the time how he was doing, the response was always "fine", or "doing okay".

*

I'm guessing his conversation with Dez was regarding their relationship, and anything Prince wanted to express to him about the past, and/or, his personal feelings about him.
