I really wish people wouldnt try to label his live performances of songs like that to a genre... Its not punk, its just live... some person just decided to call it the punk version. I think i remember seeing that somewhere on that one popular video site and i think it was the Saginaw, MI 1982 or a New Orleans show of the same time. usually known as "Leaped7689" |

I've been wondering about it too.. it's simply a relatively straight playthrough of the album version, but live, so with the guitars a bit louder. It's great, as the song is great, but no complete reworking of the song. . It's not even as different from the studio version as the slowed down version of let's go crazy that he played the last few years. (and that one isn't very different either) Paisley Park is in your heart - Love Is Here! |

The album version is more new wave-ish and experimental, while this live version sounds more akin to something a late 70's punk band would play. Hence the label, 'punk version'. There's definitely more of a raw energy to the live version. | |
