ALL NEW LEAKS + BOOTLEGS: updated list (please help)

NO SOLICITING FOR BOOTLEGS! Discussion is fine, so long as the bootleg is not being promoted e.g. pre-release; requests/offers to share or copy, and links to download or bootleg sites are not. These rules are strictly enforced!
***********************************

Hi y'all,

.

I see a new thread popping every once in a while about new leaks, sometimes several a day or a week as is the case now. It's confusing enough that we don't always know where to get them, it becomes a headache if we first have to figure out what to look for by browsing the board every day. I don't think we need a new thread for each new leak.

.

Please share info about new leaks, starting by the new ones from this week. I originally wanted to repost all the new releases/leaks in the OP but I never get around to doing it so I think we just follow new posts in the thread to check on new leaks/releases.

.

Please limit the discussion to informations about the leaks/releases (sound quality, sources, is it rehash or really new/improved, etc.) so that the information isn't lost in a flood of comments about the music itself: you can create separate threads to discuss artistic appreciation of the content itself.

.

Please don't fuck-up the thread by asking for or sharing links. Mods will lock the thread if you do that.

.

Please post only confirmed leaks and tracklists (i.e. you have the tracks or several posters have confirmed having them). Let's avoid rumors and fakes as much as possible.

.

When the thread autolocks, I'll make a new one and ask the mods to make a new sticky.

.

Thx for ur help hug

.

The new soundcheck from the St. Paul Civic Center 1984-12-23 is pretty great.

1 Instrumental Jam

2 Controversy Instrumental Jam

3-7 The Ladder (Takes 1-5)

8 Strange Relationship

9 Do Me, Baby

This one's a proper fan release, complete with artwork and everything. It's niiiice!

Actually, there was only the soundcheck. Afterwards, the source asked the leaker to create an artwork for it.

The version on BFTP 6.0 was the complete live version with the overdubs that are on the album and the strings.

Many thanks - so many versions! So little time!

Another query (as I'm working my way through these)

Chocolate has been commeted on as the best version available. To me it sounds very hissy and has a verylow bitrate. Is this really the best version? I'm sure theres been a better leak of this (although from memory its a bit distorted)

Yeah, I think this is the best version out of all of them. It sounds a little bit more clear even though the hiss is still present and the bitrate is actually very bad [128 kbit/s]. The ending is slightly longter as welll (just from a couple of seconds though).

That's what I meant, a fan had the material, got another fan to create artwork, they shared it with the rest of us. I was just differentiating between that, which I consider a "proper fan release", and the leaks that have been just a few tracks leaked to us at a time without any proper organization or presentation. wink

'The Ladder' (Take 3), from the 23 December 1984 soundcheck/rehearsal, quite obviously was used for basic tracking purposes to create the album version; its Princevault.org entry should be updated accordingly, which would affect several of the alleged recording dates.

This rehearsal is incorrectly dated. The track was recorded on October 31, 1984.

The expanded version of my book PRINCE and The Purple Rain Era Studio Sessions 1983-1984 was released in November 2018. (www.amazon.com/gp/product/1538114623/ref=dbs_a_def_rwt_bibl_vppi_i0) or www.facebook.com/groups/1...104195943/

Thanks Duane for your contribution! (even though the date was also seen on your book) Was also an instrumental jam and an instrumental version of Controversy part of this rehearsal as well? Or were they part of another one?
