Remember that lawsuit about the "Dancing Baby" video with "Let's Go Crazy" in the background? It's finally over...

.

Lenz and Universal filed petitions requesting that the Supreme Court review the Ninth Circuit’s ruling. The Supreme Court denied both petitions. This meant that the case returned to the district court for trial on the question of whether Universal’s takedown was a misrepresentation under the Ninth Circuit’s subjective standard. Rather than go to trial, the parties have agreed to a settlement.

It was horrible and uncalled for in the first place. Whoever brought that suit on, Universal, Web Sherriff, Prince's people, Prince himself? all complete arseholes for that. My sympathy to the family and their baby. A magic few moments no doubt ruined by a thoughtless set of wankers.

Brought to you by the same guy who attacked fan sites for having photos of people's tattoos that involved his symbol.

Simply not true. It also became a test cause for safe harbour and fair use arguments. In breaking news tonight, bad weather predicted.....Bart says Prince to blame.

You might wanna look up what "became" means.

.

Yes, Prince's idiocy started this lawsuit. That it was taken further as a test case simply points to how idiotic this case was.

Well, firstly 'became' is the past tense of'become' as in She wants to become a teacher and She became a teacher.

I've also corrected your last statement. 'That it was taken further illustrates the important issues at stake and a valuable wider discussion'.

And why did it become that? Because it was so goddamn stupid it was just about perfect.

This is the first time I have heard of this!

At first glance this is insane! Prince clearly had some issues in life causing him great stress, needlessly.

On reflection I can see Prince has a point.

With everything in life there had to be a first and there has to be a clarification.

Sometimes it feels like the internet allows a free-for-all in absolutely everything, where it is assumed anything goes.

What this case shows is that once in a while we have to stop to question what we are doing.

Without doubt it is important for terms such as; fair use, creative commons and free, to all be defined.

We cannot have any platform that allows any creative work to be used and abused without the creators / owners concent.

That being said, it is right for this to be deemed as fair use as ultimately it falls into the category of common sense!
