In fact Mark Moore's remix of Batdance includes "Rave Unto The Joy Fantastic"... maybe hinting at how an original version of this track could have sounded pre Batman!

Prince's house music realistically is just an attempt at acid house and so I admit I'm not a fan of Prince's house music except Loose which I love. But 51 Hours and one of the tracks on Emancipation are just that....attempts.

The more I think about this era, the more interesting and frustrating it is!

Clearly the sequel to Lovesexy had promising influences, and he was interested in working with House music DJs and producers, at least on remixes.

What an album "Rave" could have been, if the offer of Batman hadn't come along!

("Acid House", maybe not, but it would have been "House" of some kind)

I'd always assumed that Prince was influenced by Tim Simenon's Bomb The Bass who was pretty big around that time (cerainly in the UK) and very much part of the late '80s acid house scene. Batdance, in particular, is very similar in style to 'Beat Dis' which was released early '88. That track also includes a sample of Housequake's "Shut up..." line which I presume would have been reason enough to have brought it to Prince's attention.

I don't recall there being any stories of the two of them communicating or meeting around that period, although Tim later produced Cat's solo material after she left the Prince camp.
