Pills and thrills and daffodils will kill... If you don't believe me or don't get it, I don't have time to try to convince you, sorry.

They really need to make any re-releases worth the effort. A few new pics or a bonus track just ain't going to cut it with me. Things like Purple Rain deluxe are worth the cost, but if they're just going to slap Sony on the back and put it out again, no thanks. "Remastered" - eh, maybe. I'll judge by other's opinions. Having said that, the NPG releases of the vinyl albums were nice, and Dirty Mind shined through the most with a remaster thus far. I would like to hear ATWIAD, Parade, SOTT cleaned up. Once he started going really digital with the recording process, I don't see a remaster being that necessary. We shall see.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

You have a misunderstanding of the term 'remastering'. Remastering doesn't "clean up" anything.

.

Prince started recording digitally (not to hard drive, but to DASH tape) sometime in the early '90s. Later he's recorded stuff in ProTools but he's returned to tracking mainly on analog tape. The fact is, a LOT of this material is actually in need of remastering by someone who knows what s/he's doing – since Prince's mastering (especially from the early '00s onwards) was quite bad, to be honest. So I'd love to have nice remasters of the AOA and HitnRun1,2 albums too, for example, with restored dynamics, properly set volume levels and much less distortion. But noone will be bothered to do these.. sad
.

WOw... I thought if anything was good to be said about HnR I it was the production and mastering. The levels are great, (although I haven't put it up to a wavelength view)...

same with AOA and HNR2 which is phenomenal. I can hear virtually every instrument and detail, ping, pop, scrape etc.

Sure, back in the day a song like STARE would've been mastered differently to achieve that warmer sound, but P started incorporating much of the Larry G pop sound one they began touring together (something I'm not completely fond of)

If anything needs remastering its prob dubious elements of the NPGMC releases. Emancipation could use a little filling up... but even that was great production...albeit a little thin.

definitely the 80's could use a fresh touch so long as it doesn't compromise too much.
