If you're referring to the live version from the Nude tour, I love it. Any song that had Rosie added into it was awesome.

and lovesexy! In fact, after the purple rain tour did he routinely do the full version of the song?

I’m referring to just about every version pre-3EG. Just wrong, wrong, wrong. Also horns on the song is wrong, wrong, wrong.

Agreed. And I never ever cared for Rosie’s vocals on anything. His wannabe Aretha replacement did not go as well as his Clarence Clemons via Eric Leeds cop did. Imho of course.

I don’t mind horns on 1999 though. I didn’t mind the 2013 Montreux version at all. But horns on LGC is just so wrong. lol

There is no hate on the person… I just don’t think her vocals went well with his music…

I stand corrected. I was thinking of the early 91 shows in South America.

Thank you both! I thought i was the only one Lol
I don't hate Rosie. I just prefer Prince WITHOUT vocal accompaniment on the regular.

Nope, and that "go go go" version dates to at least Lovesexy. I forget if he did it that way on SOTT Tour, but I believe 1987/8 was when he switched that up.

I don't know which one was worse: the go go go version, or the 3EG slowed down version. I disliked both. I'm a bit of a purist with that song.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

Yeah, he also did that on the SOTT tour. He basically played Go Crazy-Doves Cry-Purple Rain in the exact same way on both tours.

I'm with rogifan on this one. I hated the "Go go go" version--3EG was much better. I actually liked it, as long as I didn't put it up against the original in my head. The "Go go go" one didn't even make internal sense.

The 'go go go' version dates back to the SOTT tour.

I would guess that P had tired of the song post Purple Rain tour, as it was the obvious ommission on the Parade tour, despite being one of the biggest 'hits' (along with When Doves Cry, which, after Parade, vanished for years). Both songs where very under representated for the next 20 years +.

It felt to me (going to many of the 1987 shows) that it had become a throw away track, and maintained that status for almost 25 years. I think his re-invention with 3EG was as much for him as it was the audience.

WDC I can understand (same with IWD4U) as they don’t really translate well live but I don’t think the same can be said for LGC. And he still played it at important events/gigs like RRHOF induction, Super Bowl, Coachella. Nothing of course beats the album version but I’ll take 3EG live version over, say, the one he did at the Brits in 2006 any day of the week.

After listening to the Revolution versions of LGC on Rainmaker and the Cow Palace, I was struck by how aggresive and almost sloppy-sounding the guitar work was, and how it helped the song. If it's too tidy, it starts sounding like kidz rock or something. Along those lines, the last time I was at Disneyland, there was a rock concert thrown by a goth "Alice" and all the characters from Wonderland. They played LGC. I don't think they did the "go go go", but then they didn't have to.

When Doves Cry was played on the SOTT, Lovesexy, and Nude tours, so didn't really vanish until after that.

I don’t think they do. There’s obviously a reason Prince didn’t play them much live. Though I wish he would have played WDC at the P&M shows.

I love the 12 inch version (movie) and cannot find it anywhere. The odd keyboard parts and cool band breakdown are so Prince.

Are you joking? You can't find the 12" of "Let's Go Crazy" anywhere? Not ever, ever? You've looked all over and it's just a mystery, huh? That same version that is on streaming sites like Pandora & Spotify, available as the 12" on Amazon, eBay, and Discogs or, more currently, on Purple Rain Deluxe, and Ultimate?? Just can't find it, can ya?

The "odd keyboard part" is Matt Fink. Prince told him to play something and Fink realized the song is about going crazy, so he just started slapping his hand on the keyboards not giving much thought to whatever keys he was hitting. Prince liked it so much, they replicated it in concert.

While you're digging for that elusive "Let's Go Crazy" 12" version, pick up Duane Tudahl's Purple Rain Complete Recording Sessions book. It'll tell ya all about the song.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

They vanished for 1 year, the Parade tour was going for a different aesthetic
