Princes second album a concept album ? This might be very far fetched, but hear me out.
I was listening to Princes second album and it occurred to me that this album kinda has a very loose concept to it.
1 - I wanna be your lover - Prince confessing his love 2 the person of the song
2 - Why you wanna treat me so bad - Prince still trying 2 win over the person from the first song.
3 - Sexy Dancer - I honestly couldn't think of anything with this song... over than the person being a sexual dancer? and that it connects the next song together?
4 - When we're dancing close and slow - Prince finally getting with the person. and expressing how he feels about them
5 - With you - Expressing how he feels about the person and what he feels.
6 - Bambi - Princes lover is now a lesbian? and Prince is trying to win her back
7 - Still waiting - Prince still waiting for his love 2 finally come back around.
8 - I feel for you - Prince still trying to win his love back and I guess he does.
9 - Its gonna be lonely - Prince now back with his lover but is expressing how he would feel if she left.

Sgt Pepper was a concept that was the focus of the album but got lost by the second track... and didn't come back untill the last 2 tracks of the album. Sgt Pepper was more about freedom,expression and experimenting with new sounds that the Beatles couldn't do live.

The songs do have a theme of trying to find a love you can't have. The reason for that, I don't know. Maybe he was rejected bh a lover, maybe be was upset that the first album wasn't the big hit he was hoping it would be, maybe be just thought it was a good subject to write about. | |
