tbh "Emancipation" isn't even the funkiest song on that album. "Face Down" and "Get Yo Groove On" got it going tho. So does "Style".

Funkiest of all time? I'm not sure. Maybe "Superfunkycalifragisexy"? The 12" of "Mountains" is my favorite.

Right?? I was thinking the same thing...Love that album but that is one of the weaker tracks. I always get the funk face on with Joint 2 Joint.

Good call with Superfunky...that one is crazy as is 12" Mountains!

5 Funkiest because I cannot pick just one....

5. JerkOut - If you've ever heard the "Mo'Jerk Out" Instrumental from the Maxi-Single, you will know exactly what I'm talkin bout'. Yes, it's a Time record, but we all know where the phunk it came from

*

4. Superfunkcalifrgisexy - SALAMMIN!

*

3. Alphabet St - I dig just about every incarnation of this one, live or otherwise. My absolute favorite being the Nude Tour version w/ Rosie giving all her life.

*

2. 1+1+1 is 3 - Stroke yo hair double time. This shit is funky as hell especially when he threw in that lead line from Love Rollercoaster on the ONA Tour

*

1. 3121 - I was 12 when 3121 came out and having just discovered him two years earlier, I was listening to everything Prince, all at once. One day, while I was tasked with sweeping my back patio, 3121 arrived on my ipod mini. I felt the funk for real that day. By the end of the song, my broom had become my guitar and I was full the phunk out.

*

Honorable Mentions:

Housequake, Beginning Endlessly, All The Critics Love U In Montreux

Loving the 90's choices. I'd swap the 22nd Oct version for the 8th June one though.

Gotta be Controversy and DMSR surely?...

I've always thought Sexy Dancer was a fast and funky track, especially the live version he did around 1981.

And the live version of Alphabet Street he did in late 2000s, particularly the version on the live CD for the O2 2007 final after show ... Prince himself said it was too funky when he stopped it on the one and built the track back up from the bassline. Tough to argue with the man himself!
