The times Prince cried (or got unduly emotional) during live performances...

Besides the performance of Breakdown buring the 2013 Montreaux concert...

What other times has it happened??

He appeared to have tears after performing Little Red Corvette at one of the Musicology shows.I believe it may have been the one in L.A. He seemed overcome with emotion by the love that the audience was showing him and covered his face for a few seconds.

After his medley of Insatiable, Beatuiful ones and Nothing COmpares 2 u in montreux 2009, he seemed teary eyed.

I saw this show at Celebration 2018 and he took several breaks. After one break he came back and said something like...sometime songs can be so emotional, I’ll try to get through the next set...then played The Dance, Te Amo Corazon and A Million Days, barely keeping it together IMO, then I think he took another break. His performance even on tape was spellbinding. I wish they would release both Gala shows.

Maybe, maybe not. Prince is a musical performer who sings emotional songs. He is not a synthetic human. Some of it is probably acting. Some of it probably isn't.

2010 in Norway, 18th of October. As the last song of the concert he played "Sometimes it snows in April" I was right up front at the stage, so I could see him clearly, and it really struck me that he was crying while he was singing it, tears rolling slowly down his cheeks. It was beautiful.

I think to be able to sing and write on his level, you have to get in the mood, and he was the best at that. As fast as he could get angry, he could also be happy or crying or whatever. The man was a walking emotion, that he could steer. Call it acting, or whatever you like, but I think it was also true emotion, or else it would not move so many people.

I agree. Just because Prince was cryptic and distant and hard to understand, it doesnt mean he wasn't emotional especially while doing the thing he was most passionate about...MUSIC.

It’s been said that he was crying during the final solo on the Trojan Horse performance of Just My Imagination.

Yes, I was there and witnessed it too (even though on a later thread, some orgers were questioning it). :eyeroll:

I wonder about whether he became emotional during his one-off show at Paisley Park on May 2, 1998. According to PrinceVault, Prince performed the song "Until U're in My Arms Again" during this show. Although there has never been official confirmation as to the subject of the song, listening tto it and examining the lyrics indicates that UUIMAA is, in all likelihood, about (losing) his son. To my knowledge, May 2, 1998 is the only time he ever performed UUIMAA. (PV says it was performed occasionally in shows 1998, but I have looked through all of the PV setlists for his 1998 shows and the May 2 show is the only one listing UUIMAA on the setlist.)

.

I have watched videos of live performances during which he becomes emotional when performing "The Beautiful Ones", but I suspect that his emotion during TBO was an intentional part of the performance. I feel that he really had to be dramatic when performing TBO because the song is inherently dramatic.

.

I wonder if he became emotional when performing songs that he wrote for or about Mayte or Mani, while married to either one of them or after the divorces.

It also has been reported that Prince got emotional in concert when he learned that Vanity had passed away. My understanding is that Prince found out before her death right before the show began.

Yes, this has been widely discussed on the org. This occurred on February 16, 2016 while he was performing in Melbourne, Australia on his P&M Tour.
