Prince cancelled UK Microphone and Piano tour

Ticket touts have been in the news regularly, with artists cancelling shows, forcing people to bring ID and often limiting the amount of tickets a person can purchase.

In 2015, I remember Prince stating that the reason he cancelled his UK tour was because of the touters buying up all the tickets. However, it made me think if Prince was actually going to go through with this tour, or if this was all played out to make a statement about the way the Live music experience/business is heading.

Just a thought

Yes remember it well. I just started in a new office and was trying to buying tickets without being seen lol. My ticket window was so small I couldn't see the CANCELLED notice until mid day.

I'm sure it was a publicity stunt. Without doubt he knew his tickets would be on resale for ridiculous prices. Then the awful Paris bombings happened and Prince's cancellation didn't really make the main stream news.

Many petitions have been submitted to government to stop this reselling practice, because it is often the ticket sellers who are selling face value tickets to themselves, then reselling at crazy prices. One day hopefully we will see just laws in place so real fans have a fair chance of buying great tickets at face value. Anything to help that greatly welcomed.

This is complete speculation on my part but I'm pretty sure the tour was announced in good faith, that his pain / addiction issues made the tour unfeasible and touting / terrorism became a convenient smokescreen for the eventual cancellation of the tour.

If you feel that any international travel would be hampered by his personal condition, why would you ignore his touring of Australia and New Zealand? I doubt that the UK announcement was a ploy, either--who wants to dissappoint their fans?

Many concerts took place in Manchester in the days following last year's bombing at the Manchester Arena.
I went to see Erasure less than a week later in the city.

If it was terrorism that scared Prince off that tour (as I personally suspected at the time), then that's a shame because other artists carry on after an attack and don't let the terrorists win and people also turn out to see them.

Yep, it a no-brainer really so I don't know why this has been bought up.

The cancellation was directly influenced by the terrorist attack.

After the Manchester attack, concerts at the venue for six months were cancelled.

If artists don't cancel the audiences stay at home.

I have a relative in Paris who said for a very long time after Bataclan the bars, clubs and streets were deserted.

People have to rememeber that Europe has been very unstable for a few years now so I'm not surprised if artists think twice about touring Europe.

After the 9/ll attacks Janet Jackson cancelled her world tour outside of the USA.

Not exactly a ringing endorsement for wanting/ having to play is it? I repeat: not easy to go play in a town that just got the shit blown out of it. You try it.

Not sure why anyone would want to play in England anyway. Looks like a bombsite, even without the stabbings and terrorism.

Very sad that this got cancelled, a final chance to see Prince play. Would have been a fantastic occasion, was primed and ready to buy tickets.

Yes, I agree that the terrorism attack was the likely reason it was cancelled. The timing was not right.

I always understood that it was confirmed that the tour was cancelled owing to the Paris venue terrorist attack.

touts were selling tickets for £5 a pair even before they officially went on sale. He cancelled until he could set up an alternate method. Then the bombings happended so he probably thought he would re-arrange for New Year. PP Gala was Jan and he did the US shows plus Down Under so travelling was NOT an issue

It was not a publicity stunt.

The venues were booked. I talked to Birmingham Symphony Hall organisers about it. I know the management at the venue, because my cousin had been the MD (musical director) of a large show that happened there a few weeks before Prince was supposed to play.

Prince was upset about the touts and wanted to find a new method of ticketing in time for the shows. The terrorist attack in France happened the very next day, and the tour was cancelled because of that.

I was always under the impression that he cancelled as a direct response to the attacks on Paris, I never thought the touting was the primary cause. I don't think Prince was a coward for it, plenty of people were scared around that time to be in Europe. Some are comfortable fighting it and going out in the world and showing the terrorists they're not afraid. Others prefer to wait for it to calm down and wait it out. Both are fine responses in my book.

No, ticket touts were the first reason, terrorist attack came that same night.

I was going for the paris tickets with a friend and Prince cancelled about 20 mins before they went on sale. The entire tour was cancelled with (edit:) vague talk of rescheduling, 12 hours later the attack happened and that became a second reason.

Prince cancelled the tour at 9am Friday 13th November. The Paris bombings happened later that evening. AFTER Prince cancelled.

Are my facts correct?

The tickets were due to go on sale that morning then a few mins before he pulled the plug due to stories online of tickets being sold on the likes of StubHub for extortionate prices.
.
I was going to try for Birmingham Symphony Hall after my home city Liverpool was considered but not booked. I spoke to the Symphony Hall in the afternoon and they said it was still on and were waiting on new ticket sale info. But then after the terroist attack in Paris that night he decided to cancel or maybe his insurers did.
.
I was so disappointed. Would have been so unique, as the boots of the later P&M shows proved.

The answer is here, people.

The attack did happen the next day and the tour was then subsequently cancelled while Prince was exploring alternate ticketing options.

You're being trolled. Anyone who believes a single word that comes out of that joke of a president who is simply an embarrassment to the American people, is just saying things to be provocative.

Prince LOVED the UK, everyone knows that!

As for taking a stand against touts and resellers...I say good on him because they are vultures. If Prince was ALSO truly worried about the terrorist attacks then so what?
'I loved him then, I love him now and will love him eternally. He's with our son now.' Mayte 21st April 2016 = the saddest quote I have ever read! RIP Prince and thanks for everything.
