It often looked like Star Trek chic to me. But Prince had the cosmic level intergalactic funkmanship to go along with it. One of my favourite periods musically. |

Yeah, Prince was a one-off. But the basic idea was a look, I was there. Nell's crowd stuff.

Prince was "dead." Therefore the white makeup. He was rebirthed on the AMA as the and he went back to regular make up for the most part. 99.9% of everything I say is strictly for my own entertainment |

Marvelously chaotic, is what I'd call it. No one could have arranged such a spectacle. It was full of unexpected moments. I'd say that a few fans didn't enjoy those times of the 90s, but I call them thrilling! Haaaaaaaaaaaa! Prince went through tough challenges then, but in the end even he said THANK YOU for the challenges that had been raised. He felt that he overcame them, and I would agree. Again, a few more people were/are truly annoyed over those days and what they wrought for Prince's legacy.

the lack of great promotion,
yes... that was confusing.
Sure 1994-95 was a strange era to follow, (mostly for the non-fans)
I really enjoyed the Gold Tour in Den Bosch, Holland,
One very fine concert..
When the Gold album came out finally in sep 1995, half a yeat after the concert, I was in awe,
I love both Come and Gold Exp. deeply.... still think it was the highlight in that decade.
The Beautiful Experience, what a treat as well... ( the tv-special with musicvideos) Prince 4Ever. |

^ I was there too and yes, he was still kicking ass on stage. But if an album comes out half a year after you've heard most of the songs, no that didn't leave me in awe. [Edited 5/24/18 14:06pm]

Yeah, I think you're affirming my thoughts that the hardcore bootleg collectors and all who were just couldn't get into Prince's rebellion scene!

Shoot, that whole Versace GQ layout pic spread. Michelle Pfeiffers coke whore Scarface looked better than his heroin chic era.
Word has been written the cause for this gaunt Nora Desmond clown look was due to the stress with Warner etc at that time, before it became pubic. "Climb in my fur." |

there's a couple other looks that i'd say were worse from an aesthetic personal opinion, i thought the graffiti bridge look was wierd and then braids. He tried everything and he understood the value of changing his image to get people's interest. Bowie did it and several others did it.
I found someone else who feels the way I do about the Graffiti Bridge look! Lol I seriously thought I was the only one who didn't embrace that style.
ya, most of the time Prince looked great to me (I know looks are subjective) but that graffiti bridge look was ridiculous. I actually felt embarrassed for him when he accepted the ama award during that time. the braids were bad too but he knew it and rocked it anyway, so, kinda cool in that way. but that GB look? Somebody lied to his ass and said "ya Prince, damn, you look good like that". nahhhhh.....Prince looked fly as hell in Graffiti Bridge... when i saw the Elephants & Flowers scene, i wanted to BE him...i wanted that masonic pattern poncho...i wanted to paint my face like that...i wished my hair could do that...i wanted that smooth shadow beard...i wanted that black guitar... yall are trippin |

I put on the GB DVD and thought he looked crazy in the Elephants and Flowers getup! The makeup he wore for that stage sequence looked really silly to me. It was at least as bad as the whiteface. They've got his harlequin poncho on display at Paisley Park along with his little leather motorcycle jacket--again, blown away by its small scale.

hahaha, at least there were other people in your theater, i got the whole room to myself. Definitely embarrasing as a fan. Not to mention all the wierd shit in the movie. I remember one of Prince's early people saying about someone else who quit on Prince because he was too wierd "ya, he was never much for that wierd shit". |

i remember seeing an elvis jacket at the experience project here in seattle, i was surprised how small he was, at 6 foot he looks to have been pretty thin. |

^^^That motorcycle jacket was like a teenage girls! I've seen his live performances and all the movies and tv appearances, and that does not convey the same about his scale as standing in front him on an equal level as they truly are. We all know about his size, but seeing it in reality just really brought it home in the only way it could. After seeing him with guitars all the time, then seeing one alone on display made me feel that those were small guitars, and some of them were. No--Prince was just small! Great in stature and image, but physically small. |

ya, Elvis looks like a giant onscreen, and prince never looked small onstage to me. They say the camera adds ten pounds but after being around pro fighters and then seeing them on tv I thought "no, the camera adds 20 pounds" guys around my size looked musclebound and i'm far from muscular or big. There really is a lot of room to play smoke an mirrors when it comes to media, makeup, camera work etc.., |

Funny thing: when I was getting ready to see Prince in Paradiso Amsterdam in 1995, I saw some of the crew members walk behind his microphone and it only reached until their chest. But when "The Artist" came on, everything was right and he never looked like anything but a rock star. |
