Let's Talk About Groovy Potential

I love this song.

Prince Vault states the basic tracking was from 2012.

But P's use of the word "groovy" makes me think Prince wrote this song years ago. But I dont know.

Back in the day, when I was a youngin' the word "groovy" eventually became cliched.

How about the younger fans? What does groovy mean to you?

I wonder why Prince used the word groovy?

I may not be young enough to answer this question (early 40's). But groovy when used when I was a kid was a throwback word, but considered charming and tongue-in-cheek. Its not lame like "golly" or "neat" but fun.

I love this song! As for the use of groovy I think no one seriously used that word past the 70s right? Maybe he picked the word because it is retro. I don't know in Judith Hills interviews she said he had a thing for nostalgia and the past so Maybe he was just incorporating words from an era he liked.

My impression is that “groovy potential” refers to music, and the potential a piece of music has to become a solid groove. And that he’s using as a double entendres in the song to describe a relationship.

I absolutely adore this song. It's so bright. It instantly makes me happier.

This song and use of groovy are an intentional throwback.

Beautiful song. It has a retro sound so that may account for the use of the word, but I don't consider it particularly dated.

Agreed. 'Revelation' is a late-classic in my book and among my favourite Prince songs. I even had it as first dance for my wedding in 2016.

Indeed. After seeing this thread, I listened to it again last night to see if I'd missed something. Nope, still awful.

The only person I ever heard use the word groovy was a Swiss guy I met in Panajachel, Guatemala, which used to be known as a hippy hangout, but was more of a tourist trap when I was there in 2000. And this guy was too young to have been around in the 60s, but maybe be picked up the groovy vocabulary.
As for the song, it has a bit of that old school 60s/70s soul vibe, so yeah, I think it's groovy...

I've loved this song since Prince first put it on 3rdeyegirl.com for download. I think it's very interesting musically. There's a lot going on in it!

I really enjoy this track. It has an airy, lighthearted feel that I love. I always suspected that Andy was its inspiration, but I didn't know it had been confirmed. Where can we read about that?

Another lost one-man-band hit. disbelief

But I will say Prince did accomplish another semi hit in 2015 on the charts with 1000 x's and O's without even trying.

I think it had the potential to be a hit too. Yes 1000 X's & O's did pretty well!
