Not out there at all I thought about that before as I love Tarantino and I love the fact that he put his movies' soundtracks as one of the forefronts of telling the story. However, I'm not sure. Q is gravitated more toward 60s rock, occasionaly 70s R&B.

I, for one, am certainly glad they didn't. QT is a fucking asshole and frankly, I don't think he's that talented. He's a niche director who sort of has the same penchant for blood, cussing, violence and the outrageous for the sake of it, not because it tells a great story. I remember my friend making me watch Pulp Fiction. He was laughing through most of it, and I found zero humor in it.

Prince was classier than that. I can only imagine horrible stories coming from them working together, and QT eventually dissing Prince in the press. Prince would write and record great music which wouldn't make it out and eventually be bootlegged. It would be such a bad memory for him that he would never visit it again.

There are directors that could have taken Prince's music and artistry and made something cohesive and interesting (Spike Lee didn't with Girl 6). And maybe that could still happen down the line where Prince's music really becomes part of the story. I think Showgirls was one of those. "319" and "Ripopgodazippa" fit those scenes really well. It's a camp film, but the raw sexuality of "319" fit a pole routine, and the sexiness of "Ripop" melded well into that other scene. GIrl 6 felt like an afterthought putting his music all through that movie. The songs were so specific that they felt disjointed in the film. Even Prince told Spike that he felt some songs didn't work. I enjoy Spike as a filmmaker, but Girl 6 didn't age that well.

Pulp Fiction, arguably his most popular film for a long time, was released in 1994, certainly in the midst of Prince's most cuss-worthy period in his career (Exodus released in March 1995, Goldnigga in 1993 to note a couple). QT was certainly a name with Pulp Fiction. It took the world by storm. You couldn't get away from it. He got more than enough attention in 1992 with Reservoir Dogs. Don't forget he also wrote Natural Born Killers, also released in 1994. So, no, Prince was nowhere near giving up the fucks etc around then.

on the soundtrack.

later, as we all know, they didn't appear.

one of the songs was called something like 'the funk of 1000 ages'.

anyone else remember something about this?

Ew. No. Prince and Tarrantino would be of altogether separate camps. Unless Tarantino would have managed to direct a superhero film that Prince might have taken a liking to ala Batman. Maybe a gangster film could've done the trick for a collabo, but Tarantino's works are just too violent and, shall I say, culturally divisive.

i suppose it might make sense if Tarantino used "I Wann Be Your Lover" in a soundtrack or something but, overall, they seem pretty diametrically opposed stylistically and come from WAY differnt places. Mainly, Quentin's work is noted for it's gritty violence and Prince was never like that.

I'm pleased Prince had nothing to do with him.

I remember going crazy when I heard DMSR in Risky Business.

Pulp Fiction is Tarantino's best work by a long distance, because it's the one hid DIDN'T write alone.

Tarantino is visually bold, but he's not a good writer... each of his films has been steadily more awful than the last since Jackie Brown.

What he has to do with Prince I have no idea. Their aesthetics don't mesh in any natural way.

Might as well say wouldn't it be cool if Prince collaborated with a DeLorean car.
