I thought this would be the less interesting track in the set list. But the solos are awesome :guitar:
The Ladder is cool too Cant believe my purple psychedelic pimp slap

The rehearsal that leaked contains various takes of “The Ladder” and the take 3 is the album version with no overdubs and no backing vox by Wendy, Lisa, Susannah & Taj. "Don't need no Reefer. Princevault.com Basic tracking was done on 31 October 1984, during the last day of rehearsals for the Purple Rain Tour at the Saint Paul Civic Center Arena, St. Paul, Minnesota. The basic recording was taken to the Flying Cloud Drive Warehouse in Eden Prairie afterwards, where Wendy & Lisa, together with Susannah Melvoin and Taja Sevelle (as "Taj") recorded background vocals. This is the kind of stuff that makes me role my eyes at Prince when he talks about the PR tour being hard to go thru
.
Prince & the Revolution could have done so much diverse stuff on this show...LIKE these rehearsals and soundchecks |

Like the Lovesexy Tour the Purple Rain Tour was an enormous production. Everything was choreagraphed down to the second. The structure of the tour didn't leave a lot of room for
improv... |

I think Prince might have felt overwhelmed by the success. I believe it was something he said that he felt he had to give them Purple Rain...
But from what I've seen and heard, they would have eaten up everything they did... 4 the Tears In Your Eyes, America, Raspberry Beret,... they added songs from the earlier albums at times etc
I always thought, why not do God the Love Theme? That would have been wonderful to hear on the tour, more full versions of Computer Blue, Erotic City, try out some Family pieces etc
And the set list for the PR tour was mixed up more than people assume

There was probably only certain parts of the show that could insert different songs |

The set list on the PR tour was mostly the same. As for adding songs they tried out in rehearsal, the band wasn't really ready to perform these song live. Lots of times the songs are played without the full band, Prince is on guitar or keyboards. The Rev needed a lot of rehearsal time to get ready. The wooh is on the one! |

Something I don't understand is that on the version I have: The Ladder takes 1 & 2 are edited (2:14 & 3:01). What are the real lenghts? 7:32 & 7:46? Or is it from another rehearsal? I'm really lost...
Shame on me I'm not updated! I just discovered the Lakeland 85' rehearsal!!! So great sound! "Money won't buy U happiness but it'll pay 4 the search." |
