Thizz

Why didn't Prince work with George Clinton when he was signed to Prince?

Any information on what prevented musical collaboration?

Prince appears on George's 'Hey Man... Smell my Finger' album way more than he is credited. He's most audible vocally (to my ears) on 'Get Satisfied'.

Obviously there's the George and Prince duet on 'We Can Funk' from Graffiti Bridge (which falls under the contract) and 'Paradigm' which was later.

from what i've heard, he gave george his space, probably out of respect, that was one of his heroes so i doubt he wanted to treat him like he did the rest of his proteges. I never heard the album but it got good reviews.

It's not like he wasn't busy during the time in any case.

'Hey Man...' is particularly good and worth seeking out. Cinderalla Theory has its moments but 'Hey Man...' is the strongest of the two.

Yeah, don't get it. George did work with Prince...

He might. If you look through the booklet you'll see reference to him, though no specific credits.

Prince is all over Hey Man Smell My Finger, and gets writing credit on The Big Pump.

Also later, Brother Can You Paradigm.

GC is on record siscussing their collaborations, many times.

Did Prince have much or any involvement on 'The Cinderella Theory' album?

Yeah man, it has an early 90s hiphoppy sound to it, but there are some great tracks on there. One of the more consistent GC solo releases, although he's anything but solo on it - lots of collaborators. I love it - Martial Law, Paint the Whitehouse Black, Maximumisness, Kickback, Rhythm and Rhyme, The Flag Was Stil There. Prince's track is probably one of the weaker ones on there actually.

It's great. One of my favourite George Clinton solo albums. Prince is audible (to my ears) on 'Get Satisfied'.

To my knowledge he did not, but as discussed he is all over the follow-up, Hey Man... though mostly uncredited.

I wish the Org's mods would close all threads where the OP clearly hasn't even bothered to visit PrinceVault.

I haven't agreed with many of your takes but I certainly respect your thoughts and opinions on Prince,

this take, I fully agree. I know there are a ton of new Prince fans since his death but there are

resources available to help you answer so many questions on Prince and his collaborators. Salute to all

the wonderfully patient and giving people on the ORG tho, I love this place!

The "Minneapolis" sound is not stamped all over the GC stuff like it is on say, the Larry G stuff he's on and the Mavis stuff.

why would you assume everyone knows about princevault? why not just be helpful and introduce people to the site that may not know about it. besides, this forum would have no purpose if everyone was already expected to know everything. might as well close the forum and just have it redirect to princevault

Not only that, Princevault only lists facts: dates, musicians, etcetera. The question of why Prince and George didn't collaborate more closely isn't going to be answered there.
My answer: probably because both men had their own carreer, their own band, their own touring schedule..

This BS again. The same BS that has been doing the rounds for 20+ years. "Why should people be expected to read the PPML FAQ before posting to the mailing list?" Because we don't want to rehash the same crap over and over again. Like Prince not being in Fargo.

.

PV isn't the definitive source. But it is an important one, and I expect people to do a little bit of research before posting here. Asking "why didn't Prince work with GC?" is so lazy that OP should be banned. Because OP hasn't even bothered to listen to the two CDs GC released on PPR, or even read the credits. If you can't do that minimum amount of effort, you don't deserve to be posting here.

I loved The Cinderella Theory....The Big Pump always sounded like early 90s club dancey style that was popular at the time.

Some people just like asking questions to get info rather then searching for it online. There's nothing wrong with it
If you think prince vault is a good resource then point them in its direction

I always follow you in what you say and see, I appreciate that here amongst the majority of crap i read most of the time (which is fun too;-) ). You're an intellect, you know a lot (if not, all), and I appreciate that, a lot !

But, no, is isn't wrong for people to ask questions here instead of searching for it.

There's nothing wrong with that. Give it some more empathy Bart. smile

-

Most old time Prince fans are like me, over 50.

I for one am good with the internet, and know how to search and look for things al over the net. I jumped on the first train back then when the internet started.

Some of my same age friends got on much later, and still don't know well how to look for things on the web. Possibly just like some (older) Prince fans here.

-

Some of these fans found their way to the .ORG, and considder it a goldmine for their (first) info.

Respect them for who they are, and how they work.

And even if they are lazy, who are we to judge ?

-

Still, do and say what you need to do or say. smile It's a free world.

Also for me. wink
