“The Line” the new dance: Kangeroo

Towards the end of the unreleased “The Line”, a new dance is brought up same way as new dances were brought up in partly titled tracks like Housequake, Jughead, Horny Pony, and furthermore in live performances like one called “the scratch” where they literally do make torso scratching motions (see the 1987 New Years bootleg video for a demo by Prince and Cat). What could this dance, the kangeroo, have been?

Cross the line

Cross the line
Baby, baby, baby, can U make me cross the line?
Cross the line, sugar, cross the line
U know U got 2 cross the line!

(New dance) {repeat in BG}
People, people, I got a brand new dance {x2}
Ain't talkin' 'bout Housequake! No!
Ain't talkin' 'bout Shake 'N' Bake! No!
Ain't talkin' 'bout Rice-O-Roni! No!
I'm talkin' 'bout Macaroni? No!
Lord have mercy

Boni? (What?)
On the 2 (Yeah!)
What we gonna do? (Kangaroo!)
Say it! (Kangaroo!)
Come on
Boni? (What?)
On the 2 (Yeah!)
What U wanna do? (Kangaroo!)
Do the do (Do the do!)

Prince once said that there was a popular dance called "The Rock" and he wanted to dedicate a song to it but Warners was against it so he called it The Walk.

Every decade surely had its famous dances but the ones I remember from my teenage years had some really funny names. The Bird, the Cabbage Patch, The Wiggle, the PeeWee, the Wobble... lol

Step 5, huh, jump 2 the side, do the "Kangaroo"

I thought the song was called "Let's Rock" but changed to "Let's Work"

I start a thread about The Kangaroo and get locked.

This one continues unabated.

Your thread made sense to no-one but yourself. This thread gave context and an explanation.

True, this thread did give more context. However, there was an audience who knew exactly what the original thread was about. I can see how favoritism would be suspected. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I made this thread as a favor to you! To resurrect your thread. Remember, I responded over there? I have no idea why it was shut down, and this thread is to prove that decision was worng hearted. But sometimes the moderators don't actually know all the details of Prince lore that the visitors here do.

So many past orgers, that made this place cool and funny, abandoned it because of perceived mismanagement of thread moderation here. I saw a whole facebook trail of messages about it last week with former orgers citing reasons they left. Even current orgers and more where posting. Ha!

The other side of the coin is that it is a free site, the founder doesn't care, and as for my own room to complain, I turned down the offer to be a moderator many years ago.

The Kangaroo was demonstrated during the Miles From The Park 31/12/87 concert, right near the end of the extended IGBABN. It basically involves jumping up and down.

What’s “The Rock” though????

It was a phenom dance in 1980-81!! Enough to inspire Prince to write a song about it!!! Surely someone remembers!!

See post #24 and

Rule #2 ...In general, post if you have something to say. If you want to start a new thread, make it worthwhile. Don't be lazy and give a 1-sentence "what do you think about X?". At least explain your position, why, etc... make it interesting to read; you're more likely to get quality responses.

The Kangaroo chant was featured in several of the 1986 shows with the expanded Revolution: "Wally, on the two: What you wanna do? The Kangaroo! The Kangaroo!"
