Yes. I'm from the Chanhassen area and saw him in and around town about a half dozen times over the years. He was always alone, though sometimes there was a driver waiting outside of (wherever). I never saw anybody bother or even approach him any of those times.

that's what i would think, in a suburb, no one would really care who he was, for the most part. I could picture him in the suburbs of my town, some of them are full of elderly, working class or professional folks many of who'm probably wouldn't notice him without his clothes. or maybe his size, Ali would be conspicuous because of his size and his looks but I could see Springsteen walking around without being bothered in many places. Nothing screams rockstar about him.

I have an army buddy that saw him 4 sure in Chicago at Medusa's,( a danceclub) it was i think 1998. He wasn't a fan but he definitely knew who Prince was. I didn't go out with my buddies one particular night, the next morning he came into our recruiting office telling everyone who he'd seen at the club the night before. I remember that he couldn't believe how short Prince was. He said that Prince stood on the edge of one of the dance floors and silently just watched folks dancing. Also that Prince had a few girls that were with him and he stood there wearing black shades and that the girls danced 2gether and for Prince. He said Prince stayed for almost an hour, never really saying anything, just watching and smiling. Also he had on a really wild outfit, which i can't recall the description but he had a cane in the club. Anyway I was super duper pissed that as a fan I was the 1 that didn't get 2 see him and my army buddy ended up just running into Prince on a random night.

Medusa's closed in the early 90's. 90 or 91

I saw him at a hillbilly club called In Cahoots in Oklahoma City. He played an aftershow there during the Emancipation tour. It was an all-instrumental jam night and Prince played guitar on one song, which was a Santana instrumental. Rhonda was amazing. Kat was just there. Aside from a snare drum and some cymbals that Krk brought, the band played the country band's instruments. Prince walked right in front of me through the crowd to the stage. I'm pretty tall and he looked extremely tiny up close. On stage he looked like a giant, of course. It was great.

This is true. I've done it myself. I think it's a midwestern "mind your own business and don't bother the man" mind set.

1992, act 2 tour, I had a contact that was able to get me semi backstage, out of nowhere, Prince comes walking down the hallway, I said to my friend 'holy shit its prince!', as he walked closer to us, he said 'holy shit its me!', i put out my hand, he shook my hand, I said "thank you for your inspiration and music' and he replied 'no...thank you', with that classic Prince smirk on his face, he slowly floated off.

I was wearing a 'cabbage head' t-shirt i made for that evening with all the extra trimmings, not sure if that interaction would have happened otherwise.

During the concert, he saw me left of the stage, front row in the blacony seat, the balcony was very close proximity to the stage, he pointed at me, then threw the black and gold prince symbol tamborine that he was holding right at me, it was like slow motion when it happened, as it was flying through the air I was thinking two things, first off I was saying to to myself that if I drop this I will never forgive myself, secondly I was thinking, holy hell this dude has perfect aim. It landed right at the railing, and i put my hands over and caught it. I would still be in therapy today if I dropped that thing.

At pp I would stand alone in the back curtains on the wall for the best view. Someone stood next to me too close for comfort. Realized who it was, turned to ignore him and when I looked back he was gone. Poof, like they say. Would never, ever consider approaching him. I mean, this man opened his home to strangers year after year. The only times I saw him walk around feely was holding the hand of Manuella or Mayte--other times he would just appear and disappear:)

Great story!

I never saw him out in the wild, but my sister spotted him walking from his limo into the back door of a club in NYC where he was doing a show (I'm pretty sure it was his April 20, 2004 show at webster hall).

I didn't but I could had. During Prince's "Triple Threat (1999) tour" Prince was at Lefty's Party Store on Scafer in Detroit, MI. It's a good thing I didn't sneak to the store, because my mother was there. She met Prince, she said she got a hug from him, and did bring home a autograph that said, "2 a Loyal friend" Prince".My mother also mentioned how Prince was checking out her high heeled blue swade indian boots. lol, kind of funny when I think about it all these years later. I also remember around about this same time Prince had a contest for tickets to the show and his hat from the Automatic video, on a dance show called "The Scene" in Detroit. RIP to both, my Mother and Prince.

PS, I would meet Prince myself years later during a after party for the Newpowersoul fest tour, by kind of sneaking into the VIP section at St. Andrews Hall. I also snuck a pic I posted here before. For those that haven't seen it here: https://imgur.com/btABc00

Great story and I can only imagine how excited your mom must have been ---1999 of all times! He must have been a very shy man/boy at that time. She then passed on her love of PRN to you! Love it.

Not really in public, but at Paisley Park. A friend and I had stopped one of the body guards during the 1st Celebration in the big concert room at Paisley and was talking with him. Everyone was in the Love4OneAnother room and there really wasn't anyone else in the big concert room. Suddenly we hear, "Ahem!" from across the room and Prince was standing there, at the door leading outside on the far side of the room, staring hard at the body guard, tapping his foot. eek
