who the F is 'the estate' and more to the point, who the F do they think they are to decide what we should and shouldn't hear?
I don't begrudge them wanting to make a buck, so please release what you think has the widest appeal (i.e. most likely PR-era material), but why hold on to the tons of material that no one except hardcore fans would be interested in? Why not just put out a few dozen concert recordings? What right do they have to keep this from the world? (I don't mean legally).
I *hate* this dithering, the poor communication, the unclear/non-existent release strategy, the in-fighting and BS. You're sitting on a mountain of joy - share it with the world!

. BECAUSE FLOODING THE MARKET WILL BREAK IT. . Sheesh. It really isn't hard. .
. Did you say the same over the past 20+ years about Prince hoarding his vault recordings? © Bart Van Hemelen

whose studio time? the music has already been made/paid for. It's just rotting away...all we're getting officially is BS and all we're getting unofficially is poor quality re-releases. What's the point? Sell off the stuff that *might* have wide appeal and give out the rest. It's not yours to sit on. And oh...there is no 'market' to break.
I think maybe you guys have too much of a $take in things yourselves?

So the estate thinks it is still 1984 and each potential new release is worth millions for decades to come so their plan is to trickle it out slowly to maximize profits for the slave owners grand children ... the fans who aren’t sheep know prince has had diminishing returns for years and the best chance for any money to be made is to release as much as possible as soon as possible while all the real fans are still alive to buy it all ... maybe in some world the new NC2U made millions and topped the charts the way dolly parten topped the charts 4 separate decades with 4 versions of I Will Always Love You.... but as far as I can tell that song was barely a blip and it simply was not a good recording either ... did nothing to add to the legacy of prince or even the legacy of that song ... in my estimation the single was a flop and was the best bet at catching the public attention ... nope ... prince only has a market of die hards at this point and tge only way to make any money is to bring on the huge delux packages now before there are none of us left to buy ... they broke the prince market when they waited so long on pr deluxe and now we are getting his crappy piano medley and brand new tidal era outtakes aka crap until 2020. Way to make a dead market worse ... it really would not be hard to release a live show from his peak era if they were not actively trying to kill his legacy ... so glad for boots ... zero hope the estate will get anything right ... we are more likely to get a prince song in a diaper comercial or some gov funded pro war propaganda film or some animal murdering mcdonalds comercial, than we are likely to hear what is in the vault

I agree, they should release as much as possible while the real fans are still around. Put everything on a site similar to Npgmusicclub and let us purchase albums, live shows etc We are the only ones who are willing to spend lots of money on his unreleased music, non fans will only buy greatest hits or Purple Rain albums every now and then especially since WB has no interest to promote the stuff they're releasing. I doubt thry're gonna put some marketing push for this album. Look how the Purple Rain Remaster was handled. I would expect the same very low key method of marketing.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Unless we have real video(s) never seen before made for the song by Prince. But you are probably right about the exposure. 99.9% of everything I say is strictly for my own entertainment

If the Wb didn't bother to market Prince's biggest blockbuster album Purple Rain Remaster. What do they care about anything else? They marketed the greatest hits package '4Ever' better than that. Even going as far as releasing a first single 'MoonBeams Levels' . "That mountain top situation is not really what it's all cracked up 2 B when was doing the Purple Rain tour had a lot of people who knew 'll never c again @ the concerts.just screamin n places they thought they was suppose 2 scream."

I hope you understand the heirs cant agree on any business deals right now??

I'm sorry but I'm not yet convinced the estate knows much about the business side of things to begin with. And that's even if there wasn't so much infighting since P didn't leave a will. WB actually knows the business side, and even they didn't want to spend any real money on marketing. Why? Because they know the main potential buyers left are the diehard fans. Us. They know by mention a album release will be on Sept 28th (two days shy of my birthday) from a Rolling Stone article will due to get the word out. Ironically, the official releases are getting released like bootlegs from a marketing standpoint.

Great point. I'm wondering are they ever gonna release the tons of concert footage Prince hinted at releasing back in the day, "The Essential Collection" or something like that. It was during his Jam of the Year tour I read some article about it.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
. Haha. You can dream but you can also count on them not releasing much because they think that the market is too weak. I do not know what you understand by 'tons' but it will not be multiple, complete concert videos in neat box sets, etc, etc. At least, that is my idea of what the current direction is. No, I do not have 'inside' sources but looking at the lack of strategy or plans, or even the lack of detail for simple releases I do not hold my breath for any of that stuff yet. Pills and thrills and daffodils will kill... If you don't believe me or don't get it, I don't have time to try to convince you, sorry.
