I am wondering whether perhaps Troy Carter being on our team is more of an asset in the context of reaching beyond the core Prince support, as maybe he would be able to give the new release a prominent presence on Spotify. Hopefully JayZ may also be willing to do likewise on his Tidal platform.

I mostly listen to the radio at work (approx. 400 staff, so many different stations aired…only one funk n soul show that I would choose to listen to, and I am lucky to hear that once a week). However, that said, in the context of Prince’s popularity and its potential impact on the viability of this upcoming (and any future) release, I would be more interested in the sales for Purple Rain deluxe. I seem to recall seeing a figure of over 100k, though I may be mistaken about that.

If Warners were to be releasing for example say 1999 deluxe, I’d like to think it could shift sufficient albums to encourage them to continue the process with the other classic era gems. They didn’t seem to me to put much effort into promoting either PR deluxe or indeed Art Official Age, so I am somewhat skeptical as to how enthusiastically they will push this new release. Fingers crossed this new release (whatever it may be) turns out to be both of high quality and hugely successful.

I like the old English band XTC, and I can’t help thinking that, if there is sufficient demand for them to be able to release a surround series of their albums, surely there remains enough interest in Prince’s phenomenal creative peak during the 80s to facilitate a high quality set of remasters from Warners? That would be my minimum expectation. Any additional music beyond that I would regard as a welcome bonus. Roll on September.

That's mostly Andy Partridge's work: https://www.ape.uk.net/ . Ironically it's easier because they're a cult band: EMI can easily license it back to them, because it's not like they're making millions from it now. IIRC there were already remasters of (some) XTC albums, but they were apparently rather shambolic.

So there is no clear structure.

I wasn't there to know what their deal was but I do know Tidal was trying to scam The Estate with faked documents and them posting bootlegs on Tidal after Prince died is shady enough for me.

I doubt it. The moment it hits Tidal after 5 minutes it will be all over the web in torrent form or otherwise like all the other Tidal exclusives. Or even better it will leak before Tidal has it up like some of there previous exclusive releases.

Since there will be a CD, I have ZERO reason or interest to stream it from or buy a download from, Tidal. It sounds like Tidal gets a piece of the CD release, if so, sure, they'll get some money from me. But I won't be paying them to listen to it in the 'digital only' window... I'll get a pirate copy to hold me over till the CD is available and only THEN will I part with my $ for a (physical) copy. Just sayin'...

I bought the Tidal exclusive single downloads, but, they never came out on CD. Why pay for digital when physical is or will be available? I'm sure as hell not paying twice!
